Sad PC Hardware guru's

So I have had this bit of a set back with my home computer that I just cant pin down.
The computer ran great for a year, then out of the blue (Christmas Eve) it shut down on its own. So I took it all apart after it wouldnt stay running thinking I had a heat issue, cleaned all the parts and cavities, put it back together and it ran fine for another 2 months and then BOOM, the computer will not stay running. It auto reboots before POST most times, on the rare occasion it boots up to Windows it only lasts from 10 minutes to 6 Hours.

Here's a basic run down of the rig:

System Manufacturer: FOXCONN- swapped for Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (for testing)
System Model: P45A01
BIOS: BIOS Date: 05/26/08 09:59:42 Ver: 08.00.15
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
Memory: 3328MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 8800 GT
Western Digital Sata 250GB HDD
Running XP Pro. SP3

I have also swapped the Power supply, Memory, Hard Drives, mother board as mentioned above and video card. Only part I haven't swapped is the processor and the heatsink/fan, which I've noticed take a couple seconds to turn on now?? So any ideas, need more info??? Please, ask away and help figure this out, I dont want it to be the processor but that appears to be the final destination....

Hmmm.

Try the heatsink fan as your final eliminator firstly. Then, if it doesn't work, it is the processor. Remove the heatsink and check the processor thermal paste. Sometimes thermal paste can get so hot it can actually melt and crack which would result in you burning your chip. Check these things foremost. You basically ran down the list of options. My first instinct said HD and possibly mobo but you said you replaced both, so i'm left with processor only. The reboot before post - if it is an overheating issue it is a severe one (i.e. thermal paste not present).

If you find that the paste is not there or is burned off, then it is possible re-applying some will fix it, or you could have simply fried your chip. I have had that happen before.

Sounds like your power supply is dying. Whats the wattage? Should be at least 550w... can you swap in another PSU?

Well you're down to the heatsink and chip. Hopefully it's the heatsink.

Have you tried a different cable from main HDD to MB?

I know a guy who knew a guy that had to replace his power cord of all things. Felix made me think of it.
Do you have a tester that can test all the little plugs without having to switch them all out? I was thinking of buying one of those one of these days.

I agree with the heatsink/CPU ideas...leaning toward the CPU. They are kind of pricey to buy one just for troubleshooting though. But good and reliable mom n'pop PC repair shops should have those lying around to T/S with, and maybe even sell one to you used (although I personally wouldn't use a used CPU). The fee for T/S is usually between $25-$40.

P.S. The reason I wouldn't buy a used CPU is because the reason they are in the "spares for T/S" pile is because they were intermittant, just like the one you are having problems with.
