to kill the empathetic manifestation, you have to heal it. Any kind of healing spell will do.

Thanks..but the how the hell did you figure that out?, the game hasn't given me any clues at any point.

I hacked away at it for about half an hour before i gave up....then i talked to a girl outside (one if the disesed ones) and she gave a crypic message about how to defeat it

Strange, I figured out the trick by following what it said in battle "your hate makes me stronger", etc. So I did the kind thing This was after beating it down to near death, and seeing that it didn't die. Not nerly as tough as the balanced beholder encounter after the bridge.

There's a beggar at the end of the path to the west who tells you plainly enough what you need to do. Before I found him, I was cursing away.

The balance Beholders were tough, I summoned two lots of Skeletons and listened to the battle from afar, I sent it the occasional Dire wolf aswell.

I only fired one arrow (a killing blow).
