I pick other, because might and magic VI and wizardry 8 isn't there.

FF3 (US) / FF6 (Japan) was the best RPG ever made.
Original unique characters. True, they were locked in with their skill/power sets, but you had a large number of specializing options with all those great armors and weapons. Drainer swords, Illumina, Aegis Shield, Minerva, Paladin Shield. The list goes on and on.
Also the first RPG to have cool spelllists: all of the Esper special attacks: Bahamut and Crusader especially, Ultima, Flare and the ever-popular Vanish/XZone trick!

Why on earth wasnt this even in the list!? Without question far and away the best storyline, characters, eq and powers of any game ever made for any system.

FF3 gets my vote.
