1. If you aren't already in college, do you plan to attend college?

I *hope* to attend college, though that is wholly dependant on my test results from this year and next, and I would not be suprised If I don't make it, but not wholly dissapointed.

2. If you are thinking of going to college, can you tell me why? Was it your idea, your parents idea or do you want fame, money, etc...? Or maybe it's just because everyone else is? What is your reason? (if you are IN college now, answer this too, if you like! )

Fame hold no intrest for me, money is material, the fact that it's popular is also meaningless. Partly, I suppose, it's my parents ambitions that I try and live up to, and I suppose I also want to try and excel myself as best I can.

3. Do you respect your parents? If not, why?

I respect my parents, but realise that they are human too, and not immune to things that everyone else goes through.

4. If your parents tell you to do something, do you autmoatically do the opposite? Think of it but do what they ask? Debate the issue with them til you come to a mutually agreeable solution? In other words, how do you feel about their authority over you?

Being rebellious is something people my age find socially acceptable, for me, if the request is fair, then I'll happily oblige. If there's a problem, we'll debate it, but there's none of the melodramatic shouting and slamming of doors that TV shows seem to favour.

5. What do you think stealing is? In other words tell me some situations you'd consider to be stealing. Also, do you think it's wrong always, sometimes, never, to steal? Explain if you say sometimes or never, please!

Stealing is taking what is not yours, without permission or good reason. For the most part, I believe that the laws governing a society have to be obeyed, no matter *what* the persons situation, though I can sympathise with osme cases.

6. What is your favorite way to spend time if you are able to do it?

I like to go rock-climbing, write prose or poetry and to talk with friends.

7. Do you like school? Why do you or don't you like it?

I like School. I find if that you shut up and stop complaining about how bad it is, and enjoy it for what it is, things go much smoother and easier. I'll never get another chance to so any of these things I do in school, so I'm making the most of it.

8. Do you think you will find a rewarding job/career one day? What kind of work are you interested in?

I love writing and literature of all kinds, so Journalism is currently quite appealing to me - though again, It depends on my test results.

9. What's your most precious dream? I mean what do you want to do more than anything else in your life? If you could have or do anything you wanted right now...what would it be?

My dream would to be living alone, unmarried and childless, working for a large newspaper and writing fiction in my spare time. I've promised myself never to get married or to have children, i'm far too soliraty for anyone else.

10. Do you have a part time job now? What is it? Do you do odd jobs for money, like shovel driveways or such?

Not currently, but under British law I can't get a real job until I turn 16 (next Tuesday, in case you wondered), so I'll probably get one then.

Well, I'm a bit older than most people who've responded, but I'm still at uni and I live with my parents, so I think I qualify. Plus all you young(er)'uns can learn from the wisdom of my vast years lol

1. If you aren't already in college, do you plan to attend college?
I am at uni at the moment, in my last (fourth) year of a bachelor of science, bachelor of arts degree. Then next year I hope to do honours in psychology and then the year after that I want to do masters, either two year masters of clinical psychology, or three year master of clinical and neuropsycholoy.

2. If you are thinking of going to college, can you tell me why? Was it your idea, your parents idea or do you want fame, money, etc...? Or maybe it's just because everyone else is? What is your reason? (if you are IN college now, answer this too, if you like! )
It was my idea, but certainly my parents encouraged me, though if I had wanted a different career they would have supported me either way. For the career I want I need to go to uni, so there was no question of me going, only what exact degree I would do. I'm not looking for fame or fortune, I don't think psychologists make that much anyway, I just want a fulfilling career and I think this will be one.

3. Do you respect your parents? If not, why?
Yes I do. I do believe respect should be earned, if they were bad parents then I don't feel I should be obligated to respect them just because they're my parents, but that's a moot point since they are good parents, and always have been.

4. If your parents tell you to do something, do you autmoatically do the opposite? Think of it but do what they ask? Debate the issue with them til you come to a mutually agreeable solution? In other words, how do you feel about their authority over you?
Well since I'm an adult now my parents don't really tell me to do things so much, if I want to do something I'll tell them and then do it, they don't stop me from doing things if I really want to. I think if I came home and said I was going to get a tattoo or something they might be concerned and try to talk me out of it but we have a relationship of mutual respect and they trust me. Ever since I was about 13 and stopped being an unholy terror (puberty, heh ) my mother and I have been really good friends and while we fight reasonably regularly since we're both quite stubborn and don't like to be wrong, it's never for long and we know we'll be friends soon enough again.

5. What do you think stealing is? In other words tell me some situations you'd consider to be stealing. Also, do you think it's wrong always, sometimes, never, to steal? Explain if you say sometimes or never, please!
I think if you steal something from somebody, ie an individual, you're disrespecting that person's autonomy and freedoms, so I think that's always wrong, no matter how much you may need something. Stealing from an entity, like stealing something from the supermarket is also wrong I think, because not only are you causing the supermarket losses that they will have to make up, you are also disrespecting all those people who buy things legitimately, like you are somehow beyond the rules everyone else has to abide by.

6. What is your favorite way to spend time if you are able to do it?
I like to read, to chat with friends (real life and online). With friends in real life, I prefer hanging out at someone's house or going to dinner or something to going clubbing, I really am not into clubbing at all.

7. Do you like school? Why do you or don't you like it?
I did like school when I was there. I liked having a big group of friends to hang out with every day, I liked doing lots of different subjects. However since I've been at uni I really do notice what good teaching really is. You get through so much in a two hour lecture; in thirteen weeks of lectures we cover so much more material than 17 (I think) weeks of five 40 minute periods per subject at school. There was a damn lot of wasted time at school, which I did find frustrating at the time, and more so now that I have been exposed to really good lecturers.

8. Do you think you will find a rewarding job/career one day? What kind of work are you interested in?
I hope so. I think when I start masters and start doing the clinic units I'll get a better idea of what it's like to be a clinical psychologist, but I think that it is something I'll find rewarding.

9. What's your most precious dream? I mean what do you want to do more than anything else in your life? If you could have or do anything you wanted right now...what would it be?
I have lots of dreams. I want to travel, I want to have a family, I want to have a great fulfilling career.

10. Do you have a part time job now? What is it? Do you do odd jobs for money, like shovel driveways or such?
No, I've never had a part time job. In some ways I think it may have been good to have a job, but I have developed some annoying anxious tendencies over the past couple of years that make me glad I don't.

1. If you aren't already in college, do you plan to attend college?
I hope to go to university directly after school. An English one, hopefully, Cambridge or Oxford if I pass the exams.
2. If you are thinking of going to college, can you tell me why? Was it your idea, your parents idea or do you want fame, money, etc...? Or maybe it's just because everyone else is? What is your reason? (if you are IN college now, answer this too, if you like! )
a) I want the BEST education possible! Good basis for a job later b) Don't want to start work anytime soon c) You're supposed to meet nice people at uni d) Why shouldn't I?

3. Do you respect your parents? If not, why?
Yes, I guess so. They generally know best, after all

4. If your parents tell you to do something, do you autmoatically do the opposite? Think of it but do what they ask? Debate the issue with them til you come to a mutually agreeable solution? In other words, how do you feel about their authority over you?
I think on what they're asking me to do, whether it makes sense and whether I have time right now, and if I decide to do it I do it. Of course, sometimes I don't just to spite them or because I'm too lazy and having fun chatting . They generally know best, like I said.

5. What do you think stealing is? In other words tell me some situations you'd consider to be stealing. Also, do you think it's wrong always, sometimes, never, to steal? Explain if you say sometimes or never, please!
Stealing is taking something that belongs to someone else without permission from the owner without intent to return it . I'd say it isn't okay, unless you do it to survive and take from someone who does not need what you took to survive.

6. What is your favorite way to spend time if you are able to do it?
Chatting, posting on IW, OUAP and Pandemonium, reading.

7. Do you like school? Why do you or don't you like it?
I suppose school would be okay, but my classmates are idiots and the teachers are awful. So, I don't like it that much.

8. Do you think you will find a rewarding job/career one day? What kind of work are you interested in?
I hope so! I'd love to be an author or similiar, but I'm afraid a) I'm too lazy to produce more than one book every ten years b) that does NOT pay well, assuming you can get your book published at all. So I'll go with something mathematical

9. What's your most precious dream? I mean what do you want to do more than anything else in your life? If you could have or do anything you wanted right now...what would it be?
Um... er... good question? I'm never too sure on these questions, there are so many good things possible.

10. Do you have a part time job now? What is it? Do you do odd jobs for money, like shovel driveways or such?
No. I once helped translate a text by a colleague of my aunts for five dollars a page, but that was SUCH a disaster, I'm NOT doing that again. I'm still waiting for $15 btw

BTW, welcome to the IW Association of Stutterers, Tiamat. Currently has two members - you and me.

So if you don't mind, would you respond here? I'm curious as to how you all think.

1. If you aren't already in college, do you plan to attend college?

I plan to, most certainly. next year!

2. If you are thinking of going to college, can you tell me why? Was it your idea, your parents idea or do you want fame, money, etc...? Or maybe it's just because everyone else is? What is your reason? (if you are IN college now, answer this too, if you like! )

I guess my parents were the first one's to impose it, but I figured that if they were payin' for it I may as well appreciate it and plus it gets me somewhere in life. I hope to have a very nice career and surpass my parents, All of the people in my generation of my family are going to be preachers, and all of the generations before mine have done the same, i hope to surpass ... that... ehe... not that I have a problem with religeon i just would rather not be a penny-pinchin pastor somewhere in nowhere Texas...

3. Do you respect your parents? If not, why?
I do and I don't... I respect the fact that they care, but as human beings they both have severe mental disorders which are quite repressed and they refuse to even admit they have problems, my dad's an obsessive compulsive nut and my mom's schitzofreniac...

4. If your parents tell you to do something, do you autmoatically do the opposite? Think of it but do what they ask? Debate the issue with them til you come to a mutually agreeable solution? In other words, how do you feel about their authority over you?
My parents don't exactly have to tell me anything to do... Im pretty much in charge of my own life... and I base it on the ancient laws of bushido... hey it worked for them..

5. What do you think stealing is? In other words tell me some situations you'd consider to be stealing. Also, do you think it's wrong always, sometimes, never, to steal? Explain if you say sometimes or never, please!
Stealing is taking something from someone else and being caught... Borrowing is more of the word for something stolen with permission and if you're really good then you should be able to 'steal' without having any difficulties whatsover, and that doesn't just ammount to petty theft, but sometimes stealing someone's heart is a thing which one desires. I do find Stealing, however, to be a very selfish act and I don't belive in being selfish but rather to serve everyone elses needs.

6. What is your favorite way to spend time if you are able to do it?
Helping others

7. Do you like school? Why do you or don't you like it?
It's a little... slow... time consuming... and since kindergarten... it's been pointless... for learning anyway...

8. Do you think you will find a rewarding job/career one day? What kind of work are you interested in?
I'm going to let my career come to me, I am not far enough down the line yet to discover what i want out of life, I will begin to major in feilds which I am interested but as far as focusing on a job in life, i have yet to truley visualize myself 6 years in the future after having earned my Masters...

9. What's your most precious dream? I mean what do you want to do more than anything else in your life? If you could have or do anything you wanted right now...what would it be?
someone like me (err but of the oposite gender) to umm... love and understand... with... y'know...

10. Do you have a part time job now? What is it? Do you do odd jobs for money, like shovel driveways or such?
Freelance Manga-Ka don't exactly fit the Criterion of money-making proffesionals if you get what i mean...

Wow.. thank you everyone! I'm impressed by the answers and the number of you who replied! What a great bunch of young (and slightly older-Aelia! ) ) folk we have here!

Anyone else want to answer? I think this is fascinating!

Just to be fair, some of my answers....

I did both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees(Russian language and literature) in University and it was my idea to go. Mainly to be able to find a good job later but also for the experience on my own.

I did respect my parent's authority as a kid, even when I wasn't always in agreement in my teen years.

I agree that stealing is wrong and consists of taking something you either have no rights to, didn't pay for or another person who is it's owner/responsible for it (like a shopkeeper) would not want you to take.

My career is not the one I always thought I'd end up in but I find you can really do well if you improvise and are flexible in your expectations. I'm a secretary/administrative assistant at a University.

In my spare time I like reading, Ironworks and gardening.

Umm... Dont u sort of like... HAVE to if u want to get certain jobs... and is college even the same thing as Uni over here in Australia??

3. Do you respect your parents? If not, why?
Yes, for 3 big reasons.
1. If it wasnt for them, I wouldnt b writing this.
2. If it wasnt 4 the fact that they loved me I would b out on the streets starving
& 3. Because my parents r really nice ppl Even if I dont think so sometimes.

4. If your parents tell you to do something, do you autmoatically do the opposite? Think of it but do what they ask? Debate the issue with them til you come to a mutually agreeable solution? In other words, how do you feel about their authority over you?
Ummm well..... I fight.... I lose.... So i fight some more.... I lose even more.... And if I fight nemore after that I have have been punished so badly that I dont have time to think about fighting more after that.
The big thing about authority is the fact that some kids my age dont do anything their parents tell them 2 for one of two reasons, 1. Their parents dont care or 2. their parents arent big or strong enough to physically stop them if necessary, my parents r both. Over the last year I have grown much taller than my mum and now when dad is out I have been known to not do things because mum cant do anything about it, but my dad is 6'7 and built like a tank, so plain and simply If dad is home I do things Im told otherwise I get dragged out by dad and he watches me while I do it, but even if I hate him for doing it at the time all in all its probably better for me that he does.

5. What do you think stealing is? In other words tell me some situations you'd consider to be stealing. Also, do you think it's wrong always, sometimes, never, to steal? Explain if you say sometimes or never, please!
Well stealing is when u take something that isnt yours and u havent been authorized (ooo big word) to do it b the owner. I think stealing is Wrong, though it depends, some ppl steal because if they dont, they will starve, and personelly I find that wrong but necessary.

6. What is your favorite way to spend time if you are able to do it?
Go out and party with all me friends.
7. Do you like school? Why do you or don't you like it?
No, because it is boring, I only enjoy school when Im on camps or in Outdoor Ed.

8. Do you think you will find a rewarding job/career one day? What kind of work are you interested in?
I hope so. I think I wanna b a lawyer, cause me and one of the girls at my school r gonna make a lawyer firm.... we decided it was gonna b like Ally McBeal.

9. What's your most precious dream? I mean what do you want to do more than anything else in your life? If you could have or do anything you wanted right now...what would it be?
Ummm... right now?? Well I wish I had the power to turn back time... I know that wasnt the question but that would have to be the coolest possible power

10. Do you have a part time job now? What is it? Do you do odd jobs for money, like shovel driveways or such?
Unfortuantely I live out of time and I dont have my P's yet.... not even my L's , my parents dont have time to drive me in either .... I cut lawns to pay off my debt that I am always accumulating(wow! another big word) from my mum, I get paided good money for that but we have some REALLY big lawns and they can take quite a while to cut.
