Curious Specimen

After a long time of contemplating a new character for a 2 player game, I am currently thinking about a Drow rogue1/paladin1/ranger1/magex. His stats would look like:

STR 10
DEX 20
CON 16
INT 20
WIS 10
CHA 6

Amazingly, he levels for a normal Drow! He is going to be a sort of battle-mage, eventually dual-wielding two certain items that will combine with his drow resistences to make a formidable fighter(after Tenser's, fire shield, stoneskin, etc.).

Questions: Are the stats good? Does a certain suit of elvish chain mail count as medium armor, losing my ranger abilities? And does a bad charisma have a negative effect on my saving throws, or just none at all? Thanks!


While I'm at it, has anyone else used a hugely multiclassed character? What was it?

Bunch of text for the average player who does not wish to be spoiled. And now for the spoilers. The Mithril Elven Plate is the best armor in the game(second best IMHO), and is a medium armor. However, it's AC exceeds most heavy armors by far. But I'd take the Chain of Drakkas because it adds no penalty to spellcasting, thieving and is a wicked armor indeed. Both armors are available in the Hand, only the medium armor is available a bit sooner. Dualwielding Ichor and Cera Sumat, or Cera Sumat and Iyachtu's scimitar is madly effective, ben there, done that. As for stats, take off 2 points from DEX, add it to STR, specialise in buff magics and you're off. The charisma has no effect at all if the bonus is negative, so don't worry about that. Eagle's splendor is a cool spell BTW
And yes, I palyed hugely multiclassed characters before, mostly in solo. I think I had a monk1/paladin2/wizard15/ranger1/barbarian1, Drow once. But three is a limit for me, most the best character builds are three-classed. XP and level penalties have a peculiar way of actually speeding up character development. I haven't the time to explain now, but just know that it's so.

I was talking about the Chain of Drakkas, is it light?

Also, I was going to use Iyatchtu's scimitar in the off hand until HOF mode, where I will change to the golden heart of Marty and then on to the Light of Cera Sumat (HoF ver). I mean, +45 magic resistance to a drow!

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of the 1 level of monk in your multiclass? There doesn't seem to be much room for wisdom...

The monk level was added later, about the time I got into Kuldahar, so he can get the ring's wisdom bonus, +1 AC and I wasn't using any armors at all for the wizard levels. Oh, and for the Thunder Clap. Yes, he was a seriously powergamed character. [img]smile.gif[/img] So yes, the Chain of Drakkas is Light, Elven Mithral Plate is medium. I have played quite a few high-magic resistance characters, and they really are invulnerable to spells. Sick. A paladin and a monk(drow and svirfneblin) in my current party are the only ones to fight on under Blasphemy, several Horrid Wiltings and a bunch of paralysation spells, all appearing in HoF last fight.

I'm reluctant to drop the DEX, So I think I'll drop a point of CHA and WIS. The WIS will be gained back from the Cera Sumat quest, and my STR will eventually hit 14, not counting my friend the cleric

Thanks for clearing up the Chain of Drakkas. I am looking forward to putting one point into DEX, then getting those boots from the Hand to raise it by another 5, putting me at 26 DEX. Cat's grace raises me more, so I really wanted the Chain to be light so as to get my money's worth on the ranger level.

Be sure to get the scimitar in your main hand and take Weapon Finesse. My current rogue has some 30 DEX and the two brilliant short swords. She virtually can't miss, unless she rolls a 1. Just can't wait to get Chain Of Drakkas Fury

Whoa. Just looked it up on DSimpson's item list. I had no idea that was a HoF item. I can't wait either!

Shouldn't the scimitar be in the off hand, as it's light?

2 things have occured to me:

1. Should I perhaps add another level of paladin, to get the aura of courage?

2. Is this guy grossly overpowered? I am going to multiplay a game with my friend, who is going to be a fighter4/cleric. I told him today about all the awesome items that my guy will have, and he jokingly said that I'd be a better fighter than him. He may be right! I don't want to leave him in the dust, though I wouldn't mind being more powerful than him [img]smile.gif[/img] Is there any way for me to make him better? His stats:

STR 18
DEX 10
CON 18
INT 8
WIS 18
CHA 4

Planning on using powerful greataxes, up until the Massive Greataxe of Flame +5.

He just might be a kicker. Tell him to be a Female Drow. And you could get Aura of Courage.
About the off-hand, as long as one of the weapons is 'lighter' you don't get the further penalty. And I view he scimitar to be more active than the Cera Sumat, so I'd get that as prime weapon.

Actually, I would take 2 Rogue levels and get Evasion for free.
