ok im creating this cool elf dude with a bastard sword and i wonder if parry is a good skill for him.
I don't want this charachter to be a real hack and slash dude so i wonder if this is a nice way to spice up combat a little? Or is it just a waste of skill points?
I also wonder if there is some nice class i can dual to a little (im a warrior)...i dont know which class but not roughe..

Parry makes you harder to hit, but at the cost of your attacks. And you can only counter attack if you roll ten more than your opponents modified attack. I think its safe to say you wont be beating a high-end opponent by that much on a regular basis, and if a skills only useful against low-end opponents, its not much use at all.

I would avoid it.

Parry bites bad; definitely not worth it. It is supposed to replace the Expertise Feat in PnP, but doesn't work anywhere near as good. Avoid it like the plague. Put points in Persuade and Discipline instead.

Unless you plan to take Tomi as a henchman, a good place to add some levels in is thief. This gives you the ability to find and disarm traps (or even set them, if you learn the skill). However, your best bet is to take your first level of thief right at the beginning (1st level), since all of their abilities to find traps, etc. are now skills, and you get extra skill points at first level.

I think Parry might be usefull in MP. A character with many points in parry should be able to keep the enemy at bay while the rest of the party uses ranged attacks...

But definitely not in the OC. With only one henchman behind you firing, you'll get wasted even if you are parrying. It slows the enemy down; it does not stop them. Thus, in PvP kill zones, parry will have its uses. But I wouldn't recommend taking it if you are just playing the OC.

Never seen it, but I imagine they would just stand there and look at each other, waiting for the other guy to attack. At least they would not be damaging your guys while they were doing that...

Parry skills do stack... if one wanted to defend one's self why not use the toolset to jack up parry skills, in attributes also while leveling up in a attribute skill. I think it's a very good place to distribute some point's depending upon your character.

Fighters and Barbarians on the front line need these points, as well as, the one's already mentioned. Deflecting arrows is also a good tip to mix with Monks, and Rangers. Parry mode is always an option in the game but I haven't ever used it to any effect at all and seems worthless compared to the many other avenues of disspersion.

Battle on!

Yup, they do stack and you can actually make a very potent dex character with it.
I myself have one character like this and can/have easily deflected an attack bonus in the 40's range, no problem. Since they finally got off their ass and fixed the prevailant bug a while back it works pretty well.
