Here are the latest updates, as far as I can tell:

Court Rejects Schaivo Parents' Request

In short, the full panel of the 11th District Court ruled 10-2 against reinstating the feeding tube. The protesters have gotten a little more rowdy are are even allowing their children, one as young as the age of 10, to be arrested in acts of civil disobedience.
However, Governor Bush and the Florida Legislature are trying to now claim, through the Florida Dept. of Adult Services, that Terri has suffered "abuse" and are attempting to pass a law that will remove Michael as her legal guardian and place her directly under the care of the State. Jeb Bush Renews Call to Help Schiavo

Since the District Court appeal has failed, the Shindlers are indeed going to the Supreme Court, as I have stated they would. If the Court hears the case, they will most likely uphold the findings of the lower Federal Courts, in which case all court appeals will have been exhausted.
Strangely enough, we are only now hearing from the ACLU; Mr. Simon, an attorney from the ACUL, is stating the need for living wills to make sure politicians do not determine your final fate. I don't think anyone, regardless of philosophical/religious belief, would want a panel of politicians deciding what happens to us.

How many failed appeals will it take until the Schindlers and their supporters realize that the Courts have found that Terri's rights have been given due process and protected? I suppose it will take one more--from the Supreme Court.

I still suspect Jeb of preparing either APS or the National Guard in Florida to forcibly remove Terri and place her in "protective custody", subsequnetly restoring her feeding tube. That would be an extremely dangerous precedent, something on par with the evil that is the Patriot Act.

I did not ignore your hesitation to believe the rumour - however, the mere fact that you considered this rumour a factual possibility is ludicrous and offensive, which is why I responded thus. You could have checked the issue on any number of websites.

It cites new allegations of neglect and challenges Schiavo's diagnosis as being in a persistent vegetative state. The request is based on the opinion of a neurologist working for the state who observed Schiavo at her bedside but did not conduct an examination of her. The neurologist, William Cheshire of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, is a bioethicist who is also an active member in Christian organizations, including two whose leaders have spoken out against the tube's removal. Ronald Cranford of the University of Minnesota, a neurologist who was among those who made a previous diagnosis of Schiavo, said "there isn't a reputable, credible neurologist in the world who won't find her in a vegetative state." The long-shot custody request by Bush was made before Judge George Greer, the same judge who has presided over the case for several years and issued the ruling last month that allowed the feeding tube to be removed. Greer planned to decide by noon Thursday on whether the case would go forward.

Check out what I highlighted in white; it is this kind of Executive high-handedness that pushes nations over the line towards complete tyranny. This has gone beyond a battle between family members over the fate of a loved one and become a full-blown battle between branches of our government.

Well, as you may have heard me whine, I live in the Dailey Fiefdom of Chicago, a socialist portion of the semi-socialist People's Democratic Republic of Illinois -- so I don't really have the legalized gun thing going for me. However, I say we all get together, smoke your legalized weed, and forget why we were arguing.

Hey, some American beer is great. Now, I like good beer, don't get me wrong. No Bud or Miller or PBR for me. And, I appreciate good European beers, from Bass to Guiness to Beck's to Heini to Spaten to the ever wonderful Pilsner Urqell. But, in truth, my favorite brews are the American microbrews, from Long Trail, Otter Creek and and Magic Hat (Vermont) to Capitol Ale (Wisconsin) to Two Brothers (Chicago) to all the other great microbrews. We certainly have good beer here. I even like our mass produced darker brews such as Killians (made from a caramel malt... mmmmm good) (which is, I sadly note, made by those buttheads in Colorado who support the ultraconservative antienviro Mountain States Legal Fund).

All that said, I don't know how I'd stand up to BBJ on a beer drinking contest.

But, I'd kill him with Scotch.

First of all, your post was extremely disrespectful of an IW member, even before considering the member was a MODERATOR, secondly, I believe Shamrock himself said he was unable to find anything useful about the law until he thought to turn off US sites in his search, which I wouldn't have thought of, and I'm sure many other people here wouldn't have either, so it's not simply an issue of Larry being lazy, it's an issue of someone who was in a position to clarify instead being a total and complete asshat mocking the person who asked for clarification rather than providing any useful input.
