Pandaros The scout raised his bow and cocked an arrow, pausing only for a moment as Sever's voice rang out. Concern that he might hit his just-arrived companion stayed his shot before he decided that he didn't really care if the missile struck Sever. Arrows flew easily after that decision, well above Xaver's height. |

Round 5
Sever attacked the ettin by throwing the three throwing daggers, and then retreated away from the monster. The first missed, and the second two would have found the ettin's body, but the giant saw the attack coming and shielded his head and chest with his forearm, which took both remaining daggers. These little things did little to slow the beast down, and he was more driven now to crush this little man. Xaver came rushing in, now that Sever had stolen the attention away for himself (freaking thieves, always stealing...) and was making ready to bash that tree trunk of a leg again. However, the swing barely made contact with the leg as the ettin was in full stride towards Sever in the rear. The ettin leaned over Sever and brought his right fist barreling down to crush Sever where he lay and trying to scramble away but just then an arrow zoomed through the air and caught the ettin in the left shoulder. (luck bonus from Prayer). The pain was not unbearable, but it caused the ettin enough pause to stop the decent of his fist and rethink his attack. Another arrow zoomed overhead and missed the ettin all together. The giant opened his fist and grabbed the scurrying rat of a thief by his legs, and slung him around behind where the ettin stood, back towards the direction of the arrows. Sever became a flying projectile, this time hitting the mark because Pandaros could not see the attack coming as well as he needed to before it was too late. Sever slammed into Pandaros, knocking the bow from his grip again and sending the two rolling through the darkness. The ettin growled a fierce and horrible growl, and saw the dwarf as the only one currently standing. He turned his attention on Xaver now, coming straight for him. OOC>>>After 5 rounds, the Prayer spell has ended. The ettin has taken damage in this round. I think everybody has had the opportunity to fly in this battle,,,so let me know if you want seconds. Sever has taken 2hp damage from the throw (a really lucky roll, as well as taking into account a certain special luck charm that you have in your possession). Pandaros has taken 5 hp damage from the throw (he has no luck charm nor does he have the Prayer spell in affect any longer). Xaver has escaped harm again this round, but he's gonna feel the love real soon! [ 04-13-2007, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ] |

Kuankreid (& Ainyra)
“After you, Gillian.” Kuan murmured, then hastened after his arcane colleague and the archmage. “Kuan, you cursed elf! Wait for me!” The little sprite fly quickly to land on the elf's shoulder as he followed the other two down the stairs, somewhat amused by his familiar's antics. Hopefully, there would be some answers... and a lack of riddles. |

Xaver
Xaver saw Sever flying above him, then few moments later heard him crash. But the dwarf seemed to care little about that. Running towards the ettin he took one more swing with his warhammer at the creature's legs. [ 04-14-2007, 06:18 PM: Message edited by: ZFR ] |

OOC>>>Sever and Pandaros take one round to recover from the crash. Xaver is the only one that has a move available in this round, and the ettin makes his move, and then its open season again.
Round 6 In came the ettin, facing off against the only creature in this cave that could see him better than he could. The ettin was in full charge, but the dwarf was quick to get in an attack, dodging the ettin as it came at him and continuing to strike at that wounded knee. The momentum of the ettin's charge together with the crushing power of the warhammer brought the ettin down, crashing to the floor as Xaver managed to dodge the fate of being under the giant when it collapsed, but not quick enough to not be snagged by a reaching left hand. The ettin was laying on his stomach as he pulled Xaver in and with his right fist, pounded him in the chest. OOC>>> Pandaros and Sever are free to move again. Xaver has received 9 hp damage from the ettin's fist attack. The attack was made in a laying-down position which lessened the strength behind the attack. The ettin has received damage and is seen as "badly wounded". |

Vindson
So many elves...there were so many. The golden domes formed by the vast canopy above them were breathtaking. The soft gurgling of a stream nearby was as the tinkling of many bells, resonating softly among the trees. A city of elves, hidden in the deep forest. Vindson and his companions had chanced upon it, but had been welcomed with a banquet and numerous gifts. Vindson fingered the richly decorated silver dagger. One of the very few items he had kept from his adventuring days. A gift from an elf lord. Why were so many elves suddenly arriving in Lockesville, so far from their settlements? Oley might have some insight. Surprisingly he was neither at the tavern, nor at the inn. Going out of town, to Oley's house, was the longest trek Vindson had undertaken for at least a year, and the throbbing pain in his foot told him that his leg wasn't pleased about it. Vindson knew about most of the peculiarities his old friend's house had to offer, and knew that it was best to knock on the front door, which he did, leaning on the wall next to it, resting his hurting foot. |

Sever
Sever was slow to regain breath and even slower to his feet after being hurled at Pandaros from across the cavern. He could only guess at the damage Pandaros must have sustained at breaking Sever's trajectory, and for that, he made a mental note to buy the ranger a drink at the first opportunity. *gasp* "Cheers mate. *cough* Done well." Hastily helping Pandaros to his feet was the least he could do, but given the situation, that's all he could do. 'Last drinks' were about to be called for Xaver if the ettin's attentions weren't promptly focused elsewhere. As best he could discern from the thrashing dark shape, the dwarf had brought the giant to the ground but had been snared in the aftermath and was currently learning about alternatives to being 'tossed'. In the dark, against this foe and with the risk of hitting a comrade, Sever thought twice about using his throwing daggers. A hit and run melee attack seemed like the only option to buy Xaver a chance to escape the beast's grasp. Equipping his shortsword and dagger (and questioning the wisdom of such an attack) Sever positioned himself at the ettin's fore and made his dash. With the intention of running the length of the creature's back and down to the cavern floor, Sever timed a jump between the ettin's heads and aimed his outstretched blades to slash at (what he hoped was) their faces. |

Xaver
Xaver's reflexes managed to get him out of the way of the falling ettin, but he didn't even have time to think "woah... that was close" when he saw a fist coming his way which hit him a fraction of a second later. When he recovered, he quickly took a look at the fallen monster and then raised his hammer and brought it flying down on the head nearer to him, being happy that he could finally reach it. |

Pandaros The scout sputtered as Sever raced away, furious at the thief and the ettin but unable to put his frustration into words. His hands searched in the darkness for his bow as he listened to the battle. It was a moment later that the noise of the giant's fall registered in Pandaros' brain. "Well how the hell am I supposed to shoot at it now?" He continued his frantic search, but once found, he would hold his bow at the ready without firing. In desperation, he yelled to the thief to gain a sense of direction. "Hey Sever, give me a target!" |

OOC>>>You guys ain't dead yet?
Round 7 Sever came running in, his blades outstreched and aimed to give the ettins' faces a new shave on his way past. As he did so, the head on the right shoulder saw him coming immediately and made an alarming sound as he moved his head away from the attack. The left head diverted his gaze from pounding the dwarf (as he had only hit him once, and was about to pummel him the second time) when the alarm from his co-head (snicker) made him look up just in time to see Sever coming and moved his head away too...but in doing so, this is why Xaver was so happy...as he could now easily reach the head that was shying away from Sever's blade, but put more close to the dwarf's range of attack. The dwarf swung the heavy hammer with his might while Sever made a run down the ettin's shoulders and back. The ettin's left head's face got hit hard with the hammer and this made his whole body jerk as the ettin let go of the dwarf with his left hand and grabbed at his new wound, rolling away from Xaver and trying to get into a sitting-up position. This was not so good for Sever, who had assisted Xaver in escaping the ettin's grasp...and Xaver's attack caused Sever to lose his footing as the giant moved and tossed about. Sever fell from the giant's back (tumble check: success) as the mammoth rolled away and sat up, rubbing his cheek where he'd been hit. The right head was looking around and trying to find Sever while the left head scowled at the dwarf with a look that no longer held hunger, rather horrible murder. Pandaros shouted at Sever, but the listen check failed because Sever could not hear the call for all the commotion occurring. OOC>> The ettin took damage during this round from the hammer blow to the face. |
