I hope someone will take the time to expain the Lich quest, at the Bridge district. I stumbled onto a tomb, and after trying to loot it, found myself up against an Elemental Lich (what the hell is that?), then he paused time, cast some protection spells, then called up a Pit Fiend (eeekkkk). Well, I ran my party to the side of the screen and let the two of them talk it out...the Pit fiend attacked the Lich, and the lich cast it into a net and it was gone. Then I ran my party back up there, kicked his tail, and then the spell on the fiend wore off, and he came back, hungry...well, needless to say, I was the lunch in this occasion. (what strategy is best for the Fiend)...
Well, my main question is...why is the Elemental Lich guarding the tomb, and why do I care ??
Is there something big and nice that will happen if I wake up the dead thing in the tomb???

Well, cast protection from evil and the pit fiend will stand there like me in front of a pretty girl. And trust me that's helpless, lol. You can set multiple traps then when the lich comes out, BAM. You can cast area effect spells NEAR the lich but not on the lich since they almost always have spell turning. I just cast mordenkainen's sword. I cant stress how powerful that spell is. Almost absolute immunity to magic and full immunity to physical attacks. The traps technique works well. A 18 level or so thief can take a lich down with only 4 traps maybe less. Btw, bounty hunter traps are crappy. What's the point of mazing a target? No point in my opinion. Oh well.

The axe azuredge works quite well on the lich, it won't destroy him but gets through his shield. I opened the crypt with my hasted character then got out of the liches range. He timestops but the type 4 demon stays with him. Then his protection from evil runs out and it attacks him. Funny but it can't hurt him. He is slow as anything so destroy him with the axe. Cheers

The quest usually starts by going to a similar house in the Docks District (next to Maevars Guildhouse).
There are three similar lich tombs scattered throughout the city. You found one, I just mentioned the other, and the third is found by going in the sewers under the Temple District while undergoing the Eyeless Cult quest.
The tomb in the Docks District will explain the quest to you. The order really doesn't matter but you will finish in the Docks District.
Good luck.

I'm doing them in the reverse order, hehe. Haven't got to the last one yet at the docks area...

How I killed them - helps to have the boots of speed on a char - move your whole party out of the action except one - not main char, of course. have him (minsc is good) run around with pot of speed or haste, but stay far from the lich. I had my mages pop in and out casting summoning spells so the lich would waste his spells on them. Let the lich duke it out with the gated demon until one is dead.

Anyway, the lich will run out of spells, then you go in for the kill. Grab your party and attack. Kinda lame, but an easy win. BTW - always start with a summoning spell where the lich appears so he wastes his timestop death spells on them instead of your party members.
