I say this cuz its true. Here is a perfect example. My bishop is in the middle of my party, the enenmy is in the front with my fighters, but from a distance. THey can still fire at my bishop and hit him, yet I cannot do that to them. THey can also hit me when I'm hiding behind a rock but they can still hit me, but i can't do that. Why not???

Some of it IS just bs: Have had nessie cast wicked spells at me when I was so hidden that I couldn't return the favor.

Some of this stuff, I think, would have been worked out had Sir Tech enough money to finish the game properly: a good deal of de-bugging and fine tuning were left out, I think. The best swords, for instance, are so much better than the best of the other weapons that I see little point in using anything else, and I'd even include CoC in that.

Some times weapon ranges [short, extended] etc, don't seem quite right either, but still a very enjoyable game for me. Don't think I've had so much fun or so many hours of gameplay for my $ since Deus Ex.

I would have to disagree on the CoC. Granted it's cursed unlike x-cal or light sword, and it's faerie ninja only. However it loses in damage only to x-cal (10-45) (and blunder buss 2-48, CoC: 12-42), and not by much. Add to that the +50 divine resist, 50% paralyze and 15% kill which are awesome percentages, and the 100% Poison (level 10 or 15 was it?) is nothing to be overlooked either. Compare these to 25% hex (paralyze beats hex hands down IMO, with higher percentage to boot) and 5% kill. +1 HP regen is nice tho, but not *that* nice. Light sword has 5-40 damage, but "only" 10% kill and nothing else special.

Then we can look into the +hit/+initiative department. CoC +4 hit and +5. Light sword is pretty nice in this regard having +6 hit and +7 initiative, but x-cal owwow, yes +4 to hit, but -5 to initiative...

None of the three are bad, but IMO CoC beats the competition sensless without even breaking a sweat. If I've missed some uber-sword, please let me know

Just in case, this was ofcourse just my opinion

Edit: one thing that's another advantage on CoC against x-cal, CoC is 1 handed...

I dunno: my first time through the game I had a female fairy with CoC, and probably didn't develope her very well.

And part of my dissappointment with CoC is probably related to how much I loved that weapon back in W7, where, being cursed, it stuck with you through class changes etc. Soloed a couple times with fairies in that game, and if you were careful to reject levels [aka, reload], you could build a fairy with access to all spells and massive mana, so she was utterly invinceable by game end. Made playing more important than finishing, since winning was inevitable.

So I'm probably not so much dissapointed in CoC v. swords, as I am CoC version 8 v. CoC version 7...

Light sword is my favorite, followed closely by Ivory blade. If I play again, may have to hang around the shallows till I have at least 2 light swords...

But overall, still seems the swords are far and above the best category of weapon in the game. THere are some nice high end whips, axes and the like, but often no decent ones available early in the game.

I have to agree on the CoC. I think it rocks, especially the kill and paralyze.

I am really really disappointed in the other weapon classes, especially axes. I've seen some high-end axes that looked pretty cool, and I'll probably try to develop an axe fighter or something, but there's really not much between the woodsman's axe and the plague axe, and that's really disappointing when swords have bloodlust, xcal, fang, muramasa, and ivory blade. They are way way better than any other weapons out there at their respective levels. In my last party, I ran three sword weilders, and with the exception of the bard who mostly played her instruments, there was always a better sword out there for all three of them than an axe, with the exception of the woodsman's axe for a short while. Hell, I've never even used the ivory blade yet because I loved xcal and either the muramasa or the light sword.

My own take on xcal-the -5 initiative hasn't hurt because my fighters usually don't have higher initiative than the monsters anyway, and the damage is staggering at times (I've hit for 186 damage in one strike berserking).

But I really miss an axe-wielder, but IMHO throughout the game, it's just not worth it, and that stinks.

Yes, swords seem to be the best category overall in the game, with lots of options available throughout the game, unlike staff&wand where CoC resides. I don't think I've seen many staffs that made me think "wow, better equip this one right away" (staff of doom, and CoC being the only ones so far). Before I got the CoC for the ninja, I was thinking more like "hmm, is this any better than the fairy stick" when I came across something and pretty much used the fairy stick until you-know-what, and now that she has the CoC, I don't see her switching weapon before I start a new game

And it seems to be so pretty much for every other category excluding swords. There seems to be one or two good weapons in each category (haven't paid attention to polearms at all tho), where the swords are plentiful.
