can freezing someone to chunks using cone of cold destroy some of their items?

I believe it does, much like disintegration can destroy items.

actually I think the latter destroys all items, not sure, haven't used it much.

In the Pen and Paper rules it does not freeze the target per se, it only inflicts cold damage hence it won't harm items. Even if it kills the target it won't affect the items carried by target. By contrast, Fireball has that theoretical ability, if saving throws are failed.

I believe the way it works in the game is...If you freeze them and then shatter them with a blow, then items can be destroyed. If you let them thaw and return to battle and THEN kill them, no items are destroyed.

They can thaw? I thought that they just randomly exploded into chunks after a set amount of time.

yes they just randomly explode. cannot thaw.

All this can be apparently solved by switching gore off. it even causes items from disintegrate not to disappear.

Even with gore turned on, some items (gold pieces, containers, quest items like the Light Gem, and certain artifacts like the Flail of Ages) cannot be destroyed, even by Disintegrate. (I'm not 100% sure about this, as I never use Disintegrate.)
