Mod issue: TDD + Tactics + Spoilters?
Ok so I am enjoying this wonderful game. I installed "Tactics" for the challenge and "The Darkest Day" for the kits. Major problem.... I don't know if this is by design or if it is the two mods working together in an extreme way.
Relatively early on (party of 3, all around lvl 13-14) and I take the dwarf berzerker into my party and go for the book of Kaza... spoiler space Ok and it is insane. Somethings called "Shadows" keep popping into existence and they have several varieties: timestopping mages + greater wolfweres + giant earth elementals + Iron Golems... and the "shadow lord" (beholder). Ok it is one thing to provide a challenge - I like that. But there is this weird thing in that the shadows duplicate and duplicate until there are dozens... wall to wall. Think 3 level 13 charachers vs 40 "shadows" which look like iron golems + timestopping mages and that is approximately the kind of fights that are occurring. I'm wondering if maybe one mod, "Tactics" for example, had decided to make a challenge where shadows (normal ones) would summon more shadows... while "The Darkest Day" decided to increase the game challenge by turning the normal shadows into various foes: mages, wolfweres, elementals, iron golems... and the two changes together are creating this abomination. Can anyone shed any light on this? Essentially I can't play the game if it is going to continue to be like this. - Gherbod Last edited by Gherbod; 08-27-2009 at 09:41 AM. |

Re: Mod issue: TDD + Tactics + Spoilters?
As far as I know, Tactics doesn't touch that area of the tombs . . . its "Improved Undead" component makes the regular Shadows/Shadow Fiends/Wraiths somewhat more difficult, but of course not anything like what you describe, and no, they don't summon additional copies of themselves. Its "Always Toughest Random Spawns" component would probably give you things like Liches and Greater Mummies in this area, not Iron Golems and the like.
So apparently, any blame for your situation falls squarely at the feet of The Darkest Day, and I've certainly never heard of anything like this in a TDD game before. Look up TDD's site and see if they mention anything like this. Also, are you SURE these are the only two likely mods you have installed? For now, it looks like you and Ctrl-Y are going to be really good friends.

I think I'll try to take some screenshots and then move on. I don't think I have to kill all these guys because I got far enough into the tomb for Korgan to get his dialogue before the masses of foes spilled out into the tombs and washed me before them in a blood red tide of destruction.
Thanks for your insights six. - Gherbod |

To add on a little- I'm sure that some shadows/shads split into two smaller ones once dead. But not the multiplication as you describe it. That just seems a bit over the top.

Re: Mod issue: TDD + Tactics + Spoilters?
So... I thought all that I had installed was The Darkest Day and Tactics, but I now see "DSoA.setup" in my folder... "Darker Shadows of Amn?" Probably downloaded a long time ago. Does that explain my evisceration here?
Anyhow, I wanted to show some screenshots. I didn't survive long enough for the armies to start duplicating although I believe I saw that in a previous instance. I literally just started running... but 4 timestops, a genie summons, 2 summon fiends, and a half-dozen horrid wiltings assured that I didn't live long enough. http://i26.tinypic.com/2w4jret.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/15g6v0z.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/s2cdv5.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/28i41ld.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/seyvrb.jpg http://i31.tinypic.com/vsgq43.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/nwxybq.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/300d7np.jpg Seems a bit excessive to me.
