I think you've answered you're own question there. Presumably Dundee was talking about the backstab potential with such weapons specifically and modified with strength-enhancing items accordingly.

The great reach of the quarterstaff is also good for beating up those big golems. Have a thief hide in shadow, and make him wear necklace which protects from poison. Then use the thief as an invisible wall, and have the quarterman beat the golem to death without risking to get beat yourself unless the thief fail to hide in shadow for that time. To be on the safest side, just use a potion of invisibility or a spell. This is only good for when you don't have a +3 ranged weapon though.
