Any time I sit down at my computer these days it's a nightmare. Please help with this problem if you can.
I needed to free up disk space on my C: drive. Okay, so BG2 is the big culprit. Okay, I uninstall it using its uninstall feature. It doesn't work so well. All the file folder contents were still there -- but the start menu entry and the desktop icon were gone. Okay, go to control panel -- nope, it's not on the uninstall programs list. Okay, so I delete the contents of the file folder and the folder. Fine. Now, to reinstall to another drive. Okay, I put in the CD and -- guess what -- I HAVE NOT INSTALL OPTION. As if I were playing for the first time, I have a "Configure" key. No install key. I push "PLay" and it says "need to run config." Okay, then it quits -- just crashes (no lock-up). No matter what button I push, this is the result. How can I clean my Computer of BG2 so I can reinstall the damned game? Out of all the problems I've having this is the WORST. I can deal with ToEE no running, I can deal with a lot -- BUT NOT LOSING BG2. I need to get rid of enough of the game that the CD doesn't think it's still there and/or I need to find a way to force an install. What can I do? |

Try to search the registry for any entries (regedit should do).

eeek! Edit my registry? Sounds scary. I could screw the whole computer.
The entries may not be obvious -- how can I tell? PS: Gotta go to a conference right now. I'll check in this evening. Thanks for any information, guys -- please help me fix this bug. |

It seems you ran into a known glitch with the ToB uninstaller, which was fixed in the patch. IIRC, you should be able to run the setup.exe straight from the CD.
If not, run regedit and search for anything related to baldurs gate. Be careful in there. Delete the wrong thing and you can kill your computer in ways that are difficult or impossible to fix. But as long as your careful youll be OK. [ 09-25-2003, 09:48 AM: Message edited by: andrewas ]

I got this long time ago from the bioware-site. Maybe it helps. Sorry but I haven't the link anymore...
How To Manually Uninstall BG2: Throne of Bhaal Here is the procedure to manually uninstall BG2: Throne of Bhaal. This will also uninstall BG2: Shadows of Amn. 1. Edit the system registry using the regedit utility. Remove the following keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\": o BG2Main.exe o bg2ep202.exe 2. Remove the following keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstal l\": o English: {B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7} o French: {43D4C77E-4339-11D5-96E7-0050BA84F5F7} o German: {5B09F344-4406-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} o Italian: {C3817924-440B-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} o Spanish: {68F40945-449D-11D5-96E9-0050BA84F5F7} 3. Go to your Program Files directory and find the hidden directory "InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the directories labeled: o English: {8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47} and {B8C3B479-1716-11D5-968A-0050BA84F5F7} o French: {43D4C77E-4339-11D5-96E7-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47} o German: {5B09F344-4406-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47} o Italian: {C3817924-440B-11D5-96E8-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47} o Spanish: {68F40945-449D-11D5-96E9-0050BA84F5F7} and {5E30BDEB-9307-11D4-9AE0-006067325E47} 4. Manually delete all the files and directories created by the previous installation attempts (this should return the system to its state before the original installation attempt) and try again to install from the CD.

When I click to view the CD, it simply begins running. I don't know if I can view the cd contents to run setup.exe. Can I run that without editing my registry? I had the ToB patch.

Ugaya, thanks for the help, but the only file I found from your list was the program file/ installshield information file:
8DAE4336-2B71-11D4-9A6C-006067325E47 (the english one) I deleted it and still all i get when I put in the install CD is the other options. No install options. Thanks so much, but it did not fix the problem. ANYONE?? Please help? |

Double click your "My Computer" icon (or if you're using XP and haven't sent it to desktop, click the start button and choose "My Computer" from there.) Right click the drive your BG CD is in and click "Explore". Setup.exe should be in the folder and will go directly to the install program once executed.
If for some reason that doesn't work, choose start > run and type "x:\setup.exe" where "X" is the letter of your CD/DVD-rom. [ 09-25-2003, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: Jonni Voodoo ] |

Before you uninstalled it, did you remove all of the mods you previously had? Actually, as a tip for the future, keep a zipped copy of the override folder/dialog.tlk after ToB and the official patch have been installed. In other words, without any mods. I find that just using it this way is a lot cleaner than trying to use the uninstall feature. Not to mention that it's a lot faster, too.
Erm... This may sound stupid, but are you using the SoA discs, or the ToB disc? Remember, you have to install SoA first... ( yes, I have made that error before... )

Sorry, that it didn't work.
There are some more issues about installing/uninstalling BG2... Try: http://www.bioware.com/games/shadows...tartmenufolder If that doesn't help either I would say just ask them. I found bioware always friendly and supportive. [ 09-26-2003, 03:28 AM: Message edited by: Ugaya ]
