also I understand that you can alter the amont of money you have at the start. How do you do that?

Regarding adding gold etc, you use CLUACONSOLE. There are tons of pages which describes how to activate cheats and the cheat codes, so google is your friend.

You need some computer literacy, but read that links howto's on setting up the cheat modes. Be warned!!!! You WILL be tempted to go crazy with this new found power(cheating), just so you know that it's normal!
