So drinking and driving is wrong. We all agree about that. Where the hell does ice get into the equation? Why is it such a big deal that a liquor store sells ice at a drive-thru when they sell alcoholic beverages to people driving a car at that same drive-thru? You don't get drunk on ice.

the idea is that it facilitates the drinking while driving.

You're gonna do something with the ice, cuz on the way home or wherever the ice is gonna melt.

and your not likely to drink melting ice after you've just purchase a nice bottle of liquor, are you?

Having a sign on your register saying not to drink and drive is like the cigarette companies putting a surgeon general's warning on a pack of cigarettes.

Aside from that. The store was only licensed to sell closed containers. Bags of ice ok, bottles of liquor/beer ok. cups of ice, not ok.

It's akin to opening a fish/meat department in a clothing store.

That's the technicality that the officials marked them on, but the underlying motive was to stop the facilitation of drunk driving/ drinking and driving.

And someone selling alcohol through a drive-thru store doesn't?

Well, at least here in the states, people would rather throw back a cold one. Not so much a room-temp one.

It's not true of everyone but an empty cup of ice is begging itself to be filled.

OK, summary, because I'm tired of trying to cook up reasons and explanations, stupid people drink and drive. Ok, take them all out back and shoot them, or if you prefer take them all TO the outback, give them a sixpack, drive off and let them get drunk, but Dont EVER go back for them.

This was a "rant" meant for humor purposes, I may or may not have been successful. And any success may have been totally negated by my adding this. *shrugs*

Your point is quite valid. And I agree with killing idiots (believe me); but there is a line here, and the law, nor you, can decide or decipher it's depth or importance. I'd LOVE to line up masses of people who drive like idiots SOBER and put a bullet in their head. The simple fact is, it boils down to...are you an idiot or are you an intelligent being? I have driven with a couple under my belt, but I NEVER drive if I can't make quick decisions and react rapidly to any situation. TOO many people drive SOBER when they lack said brain capacity (reacting rapidly & making quick decisions) in the FIRST place!
Driver's Education should be a ONE YEAR course. Then we won't have to worry about shite like this. The idiots, drunks, junkies, etc., would never pass anyway....
Just my .02 cents.

Oh yeah, and selling cups of ice at a liquor store is HARMLESS. It's the idiots that think it means they have to make a drink immediately that are dangerous. If those idiots went through a one-year Driver's Ed course, they'd likely have no ID to BUY liquor, much less drive!
If they can't sell ice (no matter the location), what will the reactionary soccer moms go after NEXT? Glass? "Oh shite it's DANGEROUS because it can hold alcohol, OR you can break the bottle and cut someone!!" EEEWWWWWW!
Then what? Gasoline? It IS, afterall, flammable!
