Anybody else notice this?

You can't damage them with fire spells, but a weapon that does fire damage gets a bonus of +10 to fire damage. Distinctly odd.

I have a +1 morningstar that does 1d6 fire damage (Flaming Star), and the paladin using it practically kills the ice golem champions all by his lonesome (with a couple buffs; especially stoneskin). Yet my sorceress tries a Scorcher and does nothing. The feedback only says "IGC unaffected by AS" - no magic resistance, no save, nothing. Just immune to fire, unless it's delivered via weapon. I haven't tried a flame blade or anything yet, because what I'm doing seems to be working.

Since you need blunt weapons against golems, the flame blade is not likely to do a lot, though probably you'll get the fire damage. And yeah, it IS weird that fire on a weapon gets through where pure spells don't. Could be a bug in the game where they forgot to allow for flame weapons. If so, enjoy!

[Still waiting to play the IWD series lol]

However, perhaps I'm getting my fantasy game lore mixed up, but I think there's a difference between fire and magical fire. Golems are designed, in general, to be resistant to magic as well as physical attacks.

Consulting the 2nd edition monstrous manual, and the 3rd edition, neither of them have that particular golem. It's interesting though, that 2nd edition golems generally have a couple of spells that backfire on the caster (casting magical fire spells on an iron golem actually repairs it), but they have no general magic resistance. 3rd edition golems have magic immunity (!). So as a general rule, don't bother wasting spells on em in 3rd edition games, and be careful in 2nd ed. classics like IWD.

There's actually two kinds of fire resistances in the game, the Fire Elemental and Fire Magical. All golems of all kinds are possess varying degrees of immunities and resistances. A Fireball will not work, but a Oil of Burning might, and that sort of thing.
