When I said "master moralists" I was referrring to Bush & Co., Inc.

Clinton is more of a "slave-to-his-loins moralist" I would guess. But, I would not consider him nor his admin amoral. Of course, I'm also currently working on getting together a project for my new reality show "Bi-Temptation Island" so most of the sex scandals intrigue me more than they insult me.

America and it's patriotism... Hmm. The very things I've been chewing on for the last few months. I'm an expatriot American...spent some time in Australia then lived in both Europe and now Asia for awhile.

I love where I'm from and I love the people (most of the time) but I don't love America the Beautiful(tm) all the time. American foreign policy is either too heavy handed or non-existant (African genocides anyone?). And I hate the fact that most Americans have no idea that life exists beyond the ocean.

An actual conversation I had with an American woman on holiday in New Zealand:

Woman: What a sweet young man you are! Are you staying in New Zealand long?

Me: No, I'm headed for Sweden and Norway soon. Should be fun.

Woman: Exciting! You should visit Korea while you're up that way! I hear
it's very nice!

America traditionally lacks subtlety, which is both it's virtue and bane. Our country's passion and ingenuity is the envy of many, though it's frequent misapplication makes for easy caricature.

Think of it: a country that birthed jazz, blues and nuclear weapons.

Sir Taliesin--I agree that Clinton lacked certain...scruples. But he was a better statesman (and politician) than Bush. I would have impeached him, though, for purjury. Neither would have gotten to the oval office without family help but Clinton, though not a model president, would passed an English exam. How'd Bush get through university with that grammar???

Timber Loftis--Any and all Nietszche will be Derridatiously deconstructed.

Ok...would HAVE passed. At least when I screw up it's cause I've been drinking.

Mr. Mopery, you have sparked me to go begin reading up on Derrida. When I first encountered deconstructionism I found it utterly useless and banal. That was a decade hence, and I think I owe it to myself to revisit it with a fresh mind.
