when the error message pops up click on details (if there is a button for that!) it should tell u the error. it might be that the dvd has some sort of protection from copyin. If u find the error post it. it could a buffer underrun or something simple like that.

it doesnt have any such button as ive seen
it creates a log that says in very little detail what is happening
Heres a sample of what happens with a successful burn:
Catching of files started
Catching of files completed
Burn process started at 1x(1,380 kb/s)
Quick format dvd-rw
Burn process started
Writing short lead out
Burn process completed successfully at 1x(1,380 kb/s)
Data verification started
Data verification completed successfully

Now the problem generally occurs sometime after the burn process started
sometimes i get up to 11% burned, sometimes 90% burned or inbetween

ive tried doing a compilation CD instead of a straight 1 time burn, and it will usualy succeed on the first session of the data but then fail on the 2nd session and i dont see an option to erase only the 2nd sessions try so that i can try it again; so i dont really see much point in this option

Edited edit:
One failure log:
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002
Illegal Medium
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002
Could not perform start of Disc-At-Once
Burn process failed at 1x(1,380 kb/s)

Another Failure log:
Write error
writing short lead out
burn process failed at 1x(1,380 kb/s)

The really sad thing is that I saw this thread and wondered what group was burning dvd's. Apparently I'm not a "the glass is half empty" kind of guy but a "the glass is leaking" kind of guy.

As to your problem, I can share the problems that I had with Nero and a Toshiba cd-rw burner. I experienced the same thing. The error was only fixed by switching to a higher grade of blank cd's. When I was burning music files I had to use a "music" blank or it wouldn't work. Just an idea. It may not apply to you at all.

I've read that DVD burners can be very particular about the brand of DVD they write to. For best results (or reliable results!), it seems wise to stick to the more expensive, brand-name discs.

It *could* be buffer underrun. Does your DVD manual anywhere saw that the drive is protected from buffer underrun? Does the software mention this?

If it doesn't, try burning a DVD with nothing else running in the background.

There ya go! The entirely insufficient mass of my knowledge on the subject. Enjoy!
