AGH!! It itches! It burns! Blast you poisen ivy plants!!! Okay Okay. I recently went fishing with my dad and two friends in the creek and I think I may have caught some poisen ivy in between my left ring and middle fingers, in between my right middle and index finger, under my chin, and on my upper, right fore arm. What I need help with is what I can do to get rid of it.... NOW. If I don't do something now I'll get it REALLY badly and will probably be in bed for awhile. It's REALLY annoying. SO can anyone help?

There are several remedies for poison ivy Someguy. Some work well and others do not. It is very individual. Alcohol is always good although it will sting a little if you have scratches a rash open. It both cools and dries the rash out. Warm water with baking soda usually helps me. Otherwise try some regular toothpaste.

Water will help it spread! Go to the drug store and ask for Calamine Lotion.

(KEEP THE AREA DRY or it WILL SPREAD)

Use a cotton ball, One at a time and dap the calamine lotion on the infected areas then discard that cotton Ball. DON'T double dip it or you'll put the poison in the Bottle and then spread it when you use the next cotton Ball.

If it blisters the fluid in the blisters will spread the poison when they pop.

DO NOT SCRATCH!!! The poison gets under your finger nails and you will spread it every place you touch including Pets and family!

CALL your family Doctor If it Keeps spreading.

Keep your hands and fingers out of your mouth or it can and WILL get on your Tongue and down your throat it will cause your throat to swell so much that You could Die from suffocation.

Call Your Family Doctor.

Antihistamines will help to Keep the swelling down and help STOP the itching But the best thing you can do is:

CALL THE DOCTOR!

I strangely enogh, have to agree with Crisomblade on this, that is what we used when we got the chicken pox, another safety tip, put your hands in thick gloves, it will prevent you from scratching open the sores

Well it's gotten worse. I know have hit all up and down the front of my neck. I have some under my bottom lip. Some spreading out from my chin. And a patch on my forehead. And know I think I may have it on my upper lip!! *shudders* I am going to the doctor's office today to get something for it. I bought some caladryl clear yesterday and have been using it to try and get rid of it. All it's really been doing is making it stop itch. It's really starting to get bad.

Better than calamine lotion, is Caladryl, a mixture of calamine and benedrl, also any cortisone based anti itch cream should help too. Just make sure to clean the areas with something other than water since the "poison" is oil based...I think alcohol should work.

If it´s oil based any detergent will work. Alcohol is very good though, it also dries. If you have any acetone (USE WITH CAUTION) that also works. Now what´s important is what crimson said, dab the rashes!

In the words of Uncle Ben Hitchcock, long since passed on, you can use soap... Fell's Naphtha or Tincture of Green soap. You need one that's harsh and not oil-based, or else it will simply help the ivy oils to migrate to other parts of your body....

Likewise, whoever does your laundry will need to use appropriate soap and caution to ensure they don't pick it up.

You have my sympathies...

Okay Okay, I'll be okay now. I got some pills for it, a shot on my right hip for it(I've had wasp stings that hurt worse),and some cream. It's spreading and the skin is peeling on my chin it's so bad. It's VERY annoying. Just one week and everything should be gone. MY doc said to use the pills till they are empty because it could come back with avengance. Thanks for the help everyone.
