I've been experimenting a lot lately, and am really starting to dig a 4 person party.

You get way too powerful when soloing, and a full party gets cumbersome.

What do you think?

I agree. 4 characters is my optimal number for BG 2 run throughs. I generally use more for BG 1 though, just for nostalgia's sake.

I usually do six... For me, the banters and quests (and interesting combinations) really make the replay value for me.

I have no hard number. I vary from 1-6. More important to me is the THEME of the party.

I rarely run a party with less than 6, or I solo. I've started some 4 character parties before, but never gotten too far. I've never had any difficulty problems with the advancement rate of a 6-member party, and I love developing characters, so having more for me is a bonus.

I played through BG1 multiplayer with my brother once, in a two character party, but that's it.

What about 3 party members? One is priest, one (half) thief and one mage.

Three is honestly the best:

Cleric

Fighter/Mage

Theif

Unfortunately i have never tried it, i usually stick with two people...your characters become so strong and powerfull its such an amazing feeling just killing everyone and everything

yes, very well i'd have thought

you could tweak it slightly by dualling your thief to mage rather than multi-classing or even by using a F/M/T - but any of these would work

I've got a 3 man crew going right now, and it's too good:

Dwarf Fighter/Thief protagonist (played thru BG1)
Kelsey (Human Sorcerer)
Anomen

The two tanks can handle just about anything without Kelsey's help, but he just annihilates stuff. It's nasty.

I was thinking 4 would provide a little more balance, and possibly a little less power since I wouldn't be hitting the XP cap so quickly (HLA's in Brynlaw is just wrong).
