Ah, guitars, the love of my life. Steel string acoustic sounds best for me, as long as it's played right. Sometimes if it's in the hands of a bad guitarist it can be terrible. For looks, the best guitar for me would be a vintage white Telecaster (as seen on the back of Terri Clark's 'How I feel' album), or an emerald telecaster with white scratchplate (as seen on the front of 'The Best Of The Corrs').

12-string classical. Leo Kottke is a god on that instrument, when he plays one it sounds like he is playing a duet.

Right now I have a Yamaha 3/4 body steel string acoustic and a Martin steel string acoustic. I started out playing classical acoustic and never have liked playing electric that much. My favorite guitar was an Ovation Anniversary model that I was forced to sell years ago. It paid for a semester of graduate school. The sacrifices you have to make for learning can be big.

Electric. Acoustic can have a lovely sopund, but put an electric guitar in the hands of Petrucci, Steve Vai and other masters, and I'll have that any day.

I have to go with classical if for no other reason than the years I have spent learning how to play.

I myself like a mix of the two, sometimes within the same song can sound amazing and be a great way to show emotions.

The best looking guitar I have ever seen would have to be the PRS Dragon, I really think that guitar is amazing.

Acoustic guitars are better IMHO. It can create more subtle nuances/tones depending on how the strings are picked and the type of plectrum used. I guess there's only so much you can do with a whammy bar.
