After playing W&W again over the weekend, I started to create a new party and after advancing in the Blessing skill, I started to name some of my items after books I have read...(i.e. my Swords are all Callandors and my rings are all named Chodean Kal from the WOT series by Robert Jordan)

I was wondering what names you gave your characters or their items and why you choose those names...

So the question is Your Name please and Why?

Hmmm... Moiraine Sedai asked part of this question here, about character names.

But no one has asked about item names that I know of, and I had to think for a minute about what you meant.

I'm afraid I'm rather boring when it comes to naming items. I use descriptive names, like Brass Cuff I4M4F4 for Protection from Ice (times 4), from Magic (times 4), from Fire (times 4). Weapons will be things like Nightblade H1D11 (+1 to hit, +11 Damage), and armor will be Oomphaz War Chain R3A9 (Regeneration times 3, Armor times 9).

That way, if my Bless or Enchant skill isn't high enough, I can do some blessing and enchanting now and more later. Something might be I2M2, depending on the skills available.

Makes me think of the Masters of Magic game, where you could create items and artifacts and there was a name generator that defaulted a unique name to the item, based on what spells you put into it...

Anyone else?

Actually I don't name objects anymore, but when I did,
I used names from the book I was reading during that time.

Mostly I used Tolkien's names for weapons and such, because there was lot's of
pre-named things.

Then I read R.A. Salvatore and used names from there...

Now I'm reading Isaac Asimov's -The gods themselves (ISBN 951-0-06537-4, you must read this if you like scifi!)
It's science fiction, and there aren't so good names for characters nor enchanted objects...

When it comes to naming items I do the same as Bungleau. Otherwise it's impossible to keep track of which item is blessed with what.

But I have had:
    [*]Angrist[*]Belthronding[*]Anglachel[*]Snaga
The first three are from Tolkien and teh last one from David Gemmell's stories about Druss the Legend.

I usually give them amusing and ambiguous names like my characters.

That is not ambiguous, that is just obscure.

Besides, I warn you, Bungleau. I know how to wield a Wonk4of5cink, and I do not hesitate to use it.

GREAT SERIES, HUH?

Hahaha. Seriously, fellow wheel of time reader (I assume you're a WOTmaniac? If not, go to www.wotmania.com and check out the humour section - it's hilarious)

On the theme of Wot, which I dear so love soooo much (can you tell?), I tend to call items I have blessed with abilities ter'angreal and some protection items as sa'angreal and angreal.

I gave the horses in the game nicknames; Mandarb and Aldieb.

This game is very good for readers of wot, as you can creat your own wot characters very easily (the teleport spell is sooo much like travelling, yeah?)

And I just loooove weilding the One Power.....

Do you give your characters wot names? I had a Mat the ratling thief, Lan the samurai.....

Ooh, look. I'm prattling. Sorry folks.....

The Light illumine thee, So So

As a fellow WOT maniac myself, I know what you mean...

I.E.
As the salads approach, Rand Al Thor (Human Mage) weives (sp?) Fire drawing upon the inner depths of the True Source and weilds Balefire (Burning Haze) upon those who dare to attack me...Unfortunately he is unsuccessful and quickly Travels back to my nearest town for safety..

Like moiraine sedai, I seem to be pratting...

As for Moiraine sedai, The Light illumine you and May Mother welcome us home one day...

For now my duty against the salad calls...Death is as light as a feather and duty as heavy as a mountain.
