What's your favourite thing(s) about this great game?
My is:
1. All the quests and sidequests
2. The way the story is bound together
3. The great graphics
4. All the weapons and spells

How about you?

see ya!

Non-linear quests.

Inter-party dialog and apparently "self-willed" party NPCs.

The writing of said dialog. Even if the overall plot is as cliched as hell, the individual party NPCs neatly avoid the cliches. You don't get a sweet, environmentally friendly healer type; you get Aerie: hesitant, self-doubting, easily hurt. You don't get a nerdy gnome; you get Jan: a dry-humored, fiercely independent, exceptionally well-connected gnome. You don't get a simply money-grubbing dwarf; you get Korgan: an inventively abusive, darkly grim, violent dwarf. Much to enjoy on the ringing of these changes.

I agree with the above, the interactions between the chars are excellent and really make BG2 so enjoyable

Other elements of the game are the same or similar to BG1, Icewind Dale, etc etc
The character dialogues and storylines are what make this stand out for me compared to others
It is that and the choice of classes that keeps me replaying to try from different angles knowing that it will play differently from the others.

Big thumbs up
If ever Interplay/Black Isle sort out their financial dispute future releases can only be as good or better......roll on BG3

- agree with fable, for me, the reason I re-play it so often are the NPC's. I doubt that anyone would call Minsc a stereotype. Of course, as I have often said, my favorite is a tie between Viconia and Imoen. Which one I like best depends on my mood, but I think that if I could only have one, it would be Imoen. No stereotype there, either. At first, the eternal child, later an abuse survivor, clinging desperately to her big brother/sister. One of the many problems that I have with the "endings." at the end of TOB is that, since you get to know your NPC's so well, they really ring false, especially hers. The Imoen I traveled with, who dreamed of "rivers of blood," who always rejoined the party complaining that she felt "all jittery," who wants so desperately wants a home to go to, that woman wouldn't go blithely off with Elminster and roam the world. We will not even speak of Viconia's. Grrr.

definitely the interactions. besides the "so what was your life like" stuff, even the simple comments when you give to a beggar are nice and add to the realism. the npc's personalities are highly developed.

i am currently in the process of writing up 3 new NPC's and i can attest to the labor and thought that had to go into making this game.

The music and the atmosphere is sooo good, and the quests are all cool... the interactions between NPC's makes the game exiting. I like almost everything, except when you get so many quests all the time, i usually cant decide which one i'd like to do first.
