OK, these are newbie questions, it said so in the subject line, so you were warned, please don't RTFM or flame me for asking, as I'm sure they've been asked before.

1. How exactly do I create a few characters and play them all in a party at the same time? (I know I need to do this in a multiplayer game, but I couldn't figure it out.)

2. What's the best way to destroy Trolls without magic? (What do you solo fighters do to keep them down?)

NO one should flame you for posting relevant messages on a forum!
Welcome and those questions perfectly good:

1/ Not sure myself although you shouldn't do this as there are many NPCs that you can pick up. I personally and many others hate Icewind Dale's idea or creating a tema of 6. You can modify NPCs on shadow Keeper later to suit you needs. To do so you just I think assign all 6 to your control?
I strongly advice to create a maximum of 3 characters!!!!

2/ Fire Arrows and Acid Arrows. Knock them first (they lie down and are low in HP and are regenerating) and then use arrows (one or two to save you the trouble). There are weapons that deal out SMALL fire/acid damage with every hit.

Dude, as long as I'm around here, nobody will get flamed for asking an honest question, newbie or otherwise.

Answers:

1. Start up a multiplayer game and select TCP/IP (I think). You will then have the option to create characters.

2. Fire!

If you want to play with more than one character of your own devising, do as follows:
1. Make sure your cache size is 300 or greater (this can be done in the BGconfig program)
2. Start BG2 and select Multi-Player.
3. Choose "Connect" and then select "Serial" for your protocol. (I think you can also pick TCP/IP for a private session).
4. Fill in the nessecary information about your computer
5. Select "Create Game", fill in a session and a player name and press "New Game"

You will now be able to create your own characters. To do this, click on a "Create Character" button. Do this for several characters, but remember to leave one or two slots open for NPC's. Also make sure that the top left slot is filled in.

6. Press all the v's next to the characters you created to lock them.
7. Press the "Done" button.

You'll now be able to play. As soon as you have saved, you can move the save from the MPsave folder in the BG2 directory to the Save folder, so you can play the game in single player mode. You can also reduce the cache size to under 300 if you want.

Hope this helps!

Don't create a team of multiplayers till you know the game better, as you'll miss too many funny moments and quests...
