Paladins can wear any armor and use any weapons... depends on your individual taste. Duelled long swords are pretty good - and you can find more magic long swords than any other magic weapons. But again, it's up to you. Cavaliers have awesome resistances and their only shortcoming is not to use missle weapons (I am playing cavalier, and I am pretty much satisfied with hin so far.)

they sound cool, i need to know about proficiencies if i had a Flail of Ages (all three heads) and grand mastery in flails and maces would that be a good theme and stuff to make my first major quest to get that and then rid evil with it.is this a good enough weapon to last the who;e game or are there better flails or maga better hammers or swords etc.

Palidan Cavilier is the best class, Imune to posion and gains against demonic characters. I would specalise in two handed weapons using halberd (you find a great one early(Dragons Bane+3 double against dragons) and one of the best weapons(The Reaver +6 10% chance of decapitation on every attack)later in the game) Minsc already has two handed weapons and ,i would get him abilities in battle axe, you'll pick-up keldorn who is a Palidan Inquisitor who also specialises in two handed weapons and is immune to magic, and give hime the cosymer two handed sword(it can only be wielded by a palidan)
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

paladins are great. the only drawback is that you have to walk the straight and narrow, and let the authorities take care of everything, when possible. two-handed swords are a must, but longswords, flails, and dual-wielding are also very good choices. Later, in ToB, you should put some points into Bastard sword and give Carsomyr to Keldorn.

Yes, paladuns are exellent if you want to have a good aligned party, just keep in mind they can't be grandmasters, only specialized. But it really doesn't make very much difference with a good weapon.
