Sounds like AVG is giving you a download problem.
You have tried the Search function I suppose? (Windows key + F)
If the file is unzipped, you are then looking for "VCdControlTool.exe".

I'll give it another try later today. Levi and I tried setting up an LAN game today and never could get the computers to acknowledge each other, even though it did allow both of us to create characters and have BG2 running at the same time.

Exactly what steps do we need to do to set-up a LAN game? I've never done that before. I've either just played solo on the PC or joined online servers for NWN.

The suggestion in this thread:

All you do is hook up to the same router/hub or whatever, then host a tcp/ip game as if it was going to be over the net. Then going into command prompt and type ipconfig to get your local IP

it will be something like 192.168.0.5 or whatever

the other person just connects to that IP on join game.
