Throughout the game and without warning the window blue error screen appears. The tech support people can't figure it out and all of the suggestions they give never work. I was wondering if any of you have expereinced this problem?

1. Exception OD has occurred at 0028:C000BA31 in VxD---. This was called
from 0028:C0058C37 in VxD---.

2. Error: 0E-0028:FF087C93

Those are the two errors that continually occurr. I am running a 3dfx
Voodoo5, 933mhz, 400 ram. Also I have the game running in 16bit with no 3d
effects. So I am stuck and have no idea what to do now. Iv'e cleared out the chach, temp, and save temp over and over plus reinstall twice.

Gak this is nuts!

I would greatly appreciate anyones help!!

Have you put any thing extra into your override folder. When I first loaded the game at work on there computer I downloaded some of the exp cap removers and level 50 rules. I took every thing off that I put into it. Because the thing was crashing on me, not to the blue screen but was still crashing. Now since the TOB is out I do not neend any of those patches. Other than this I cant help. But may be some else will have a little more insight to your problem.

And welcome to the board.

Have you attempted to update windows. You know, go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, sometimes there are critical updates that need to be done. simple little patches(because they rolled it out too fast, damn them, damn them all to hell), this may work, and it may not. It is worth a shot,

What OS are you running?

i get that problem now and again. If it happens i generally just restart and try to continue. Its strange because some days it happens all the time and others it never happens at all. One interesting thing happened tho. I normally play on "recommended" install, i did try a full install and it regularly crashed to the blue scree...i reinstalled on recommended and it was much better.

Thanks I will try all your suggestions guys.

BTW:
I'm running Window ME and on recommended install. I tried full install and got the blue screen even more. UGH! heh

Here is the latest "help" from interplay if anyone else needs help on this problem:

Dear Gamer,

I am not certain what is causing your game to have troubles, but hopefully
if you try following the below suggestions we can get your game up and
running correctly. Below are several different things that might be causing
troubles with your game. You will want to check the following (in the order
listed). After trying each suggestion, try restarting your game again to
see if it has corrected the problem:

· Try cleaning your cd. This can sometimes help to correct troubles like
you have described when the cdrom drive has trouble reading the cd.

· Try setting your cd-rom optimization to NONE as follows:

*Right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop.
*Highlight the word PROPERTIES and then left click on it to select that
option.
*Left-click on the PERFORMANCE tab.
*Left-click on the FILE SYSTEM button.
*Left-click on the CD-ROM tab.
*Make sure OPTIMIZE ACCESS PATTERN is set to NO READ AHEAD.
*Also move the slider bar in the SUPPLEMENTAL CACHE SIZE to the left so that
it is next to the word SMALL.
*Left-click on the OK button.
*Left-click on the CLOSE button.
*Re-Start your computer if you are prompted to do so.
*Try the game again.

· Uninstall (using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon in the control panel) the
game and then reinstall it into the same directory again. Then try the game
again. Any saved games you currently have should be unaffected by doing
this as the windows uninstaller does not remove saved game files.

· Make certain that you are using our most recent patch with your game.
Patches often times have a way of fixing problems that people are
experiencing in a game. Any future patches for Baldurs Gate 2 can be
located on the patches page of our website at
http://www.interplay.com/support

Baldurs Gate 2 - NO Throne of Bhaal addon installed use:
ftp://ftp.interplay.com/pub/patches/bg2soapatcheng.exe

Baldurs GAte 2 - AND Throne of Bhaal addon installed use:
ftp://ftp.interplay.com/pub/patches/tob beta patch 26464.exe

· Baldurs Gate 2 requires that you have DirectX 7 or greater installed and
that your drivers are showing as "certified". Please refer to the DirectX
pages of the Interplay website to make certain all of your DirectX drivers
are certified. You can find this at
http://www.interplay.com/support/directx/index.html

· Occasionally, I have found that some drivers will show up as certified and
yet still will be incompatible with some games. If this appears to be the
case for you, try comparing the driver versions you are using for your
primary sound and display adapter with what other people are using when they
play Baldurs Gate 2. On our website is a section where other gamers like
yourself are able to post messages with each other about our games. If your
driver versions do not match, you might want to contact your manufacturer
for the specific driver version other people have sucessfully used. The
message boards can be found at:

http://webboard.interplay.com:8080/~bgate/
or
http://www.interplaygames.com/community2.asp

· Verify that your in-game resolution matches your system resolution. (i.e.,
16bit for both). You can find out what resolution your game is set to by
clicking on the picture of the floppy disk at the left side of your game
window. Then click on the GRAPHICS button. Now try setting the color depth
of your game to 16. After you have done this, shut down the game. Next
right click on your desktop, left click on PROPERTIES, left click on the
SETTINGS tab, and make sure your current colors are set to 16 bit. When you
have done this, click on the APPLY button at the bottom of the window. Make
sure you restart your computer before trying the game again.

· Try disabling EAX or Environmental Audio Sound if you currently have it
enabled. This option is available on the Sound screen of the games main
`Option' Selection. To locate this, click on the button with the picture of
the floppy disk at the left side of your game window. Click on the SOUND
button. And finally make sure that the box to the right of the words
ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIO is not selected.

· Try disabling or enabling Direct3D or DirectDraw. For DirectX 6.0 or
higher, these options are available by running DXDIAG. You can do this as
follows:

*Click the START button on your desktop.
*Click RUN.
*Type in DXDIAG.
*Click OK.
*Click on the DISPLAY tab in the window that opens.

· Make sure NO files in the folder (on your hard drive) where you installed
your game is set as READ ONLY. To do this:

*Right click on the "BGII - SoA" folder (on your hard drive).
*Click on PROPERTIES
*Make sure that there is no check in the box to the left of the words READ
ONLY.

· Verify that you have enough available hard drive space. The games cache
requires a minimum of 140 meg available. Please take into account that the
windows swap file will also require a bare minimum of 80 meg for its own
use.

· If you have enough hard drive space available, try increasing the size of
the cache file you are currently using for your game. This is done as
follows:

Click on the START button at the lower left of your desktop.
Click on PROGRAMS.
Click on BLACK ISLE
Click on BGII - SoA
Click on BGCONFIG

This program is used to increase the size of the cache used for your game.
If you have enough hard drive space available, try increasing the size of
your current cache. Then try the game again.

·Make sure the game is running in 2D mode. This is done as follows:

Click on the START button on your desktop.
Click on PROGRAMS.
Click on BLACK ISLE
Click on BGII - SoA
Click on BGCONFIG

And finally, there has been some limited success with customers who have
tried adjusting the hardware acceleration of their sound card as follows:

· Try adjusting hardware acceleration for sound card:

*Click on the START button on your desktop.
*Select RUN.
*Type in DXDIAG.EXE and click on the OK button.
*In the window that opens, click on the SOUND tab.

If your sound card slider bar is set to FULL ACCELERATION:
*Move the slider bar for the HARDWARE SOUND ACCELERATION LEVEL to the left
one notch. Then try the game again. If the trouble persists, try adjusting
the slider bar all the way to the left to 'NONE' and try the game once more.

If your sound card slider bar is set to NO ACCELERATION:
*Move the slider bar for the HARDWARE SOUND ACCELERATION LEVEL all the way
to the right to 'FULL ACCELERATION'. Now try the game again.

Sincerely,

Tom Gardner

Windows ME stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I still use win 98, runs great). Windows ME is used for better graphics, but I had alot of bad experience with it. Blue screens are almost standard with windows ME, that's why I call it windoze Multiple Error. (lol(NOT))

I have Four different computers and I have switched back to
windows 98 Second Edition 0n 3 because I have a firm belief that
Windows ME stands for windows mental error.I do use windows ME on
my lap top only because I'm writing a book and haven't had it dump
on me while using word 2k.but I did take the Windows ME disk out
to my back yard and glued it to a tree along with the 1000 hours free
AOL disks I keep getting in the mail they make great targets for shooting
and it made me feel better after it screwed up three days of BGII game play

I've got Windows ME and haven't had anywhere near those kinds of problems (I've had more problems in 3 months than I did in 3 years of Win98 though). BG2 is running fine for me, but I've got a P4 1.5Ghz.

Blue screen definitely sounds like a Windows error to me.

Well, let me through my 2 cents in. First of all, I would agree that windows 98, or second edition is better for running games than ME, that is the concencis of my friends and I. Secondly, if nothing else works, try decreasing your hardware graphics acceleration. This worked for me for a couple of games that were having errors where they shouldn't. You can do this in control panel under "system" there will be a button labeled graphics on the last tab. Go in and lower the slider one notch to the left if it is full, much like the advice you got for the sound acceleration. If it still doesn't work try lowering it another notch, (restarting the computer after each change of course). But make sure you never bring this slider ALL the way to the left, as this can cause errors, but one slot from the left might just help you. This works for some games, as it was explained to me by a tech support rep, because the computer technology is now advancing much faster than that used in the games. It works for games like "Warlords Battlecry" for me, and since your computer is a little better, and I imagine a lot newer than mine, (since mine cost a damn fortune about 2 years ago, 750mhz, 248ram), this technique might work for somewhat newer games like SOA for you. Well I hope this helps. Otherwise try getting the newest drivers for your sound and video cards from their manufacturer's websites.
