Actually I'm not buying BC, gonna get into my Nintendo Wii. After a one year anneversary of WoW, i think it's a bit of a time to change to something new.. Gotta keep up with the Zelda sequel!

If that game didn't exist, my life would be quite better. My father is completely addicted to that mindless piece of sh*t game. In the two years we have owned it, he has gained considerable amount of weight. His health is rapidly deteorating (too lazy to check for spelling). The man's mind is f*cking losing it because the man's only intellectual stimulus is that game. He suffered from a heart attack nearly four years ago. He changed his lifestyle around to actually make himself better. And now one f*cking addiction is sending him into the shitter again.

That's a brief summary of why I despise that game.

PS Hivetyrant: Them royally screwing the real storyline doesn't make me hate the game, it makes me lose respect for the company and Chris Metzen.

I enjoy WoW just fine. I exercise nightly so I don't gain weight, and I log on for a little time or a lot most days.

If you enjoy something, do it, if not, don't. SM has a real gripe, but I think it's properly addressed to his father (who apparently has an addictive personality), not the game. Don't hate the drug/casino/booze, hate the addict/gambler/drunk.

I enjoy most all aspects of the game, the people I've met, and the time I spend playing. When it stops being fun, I'll stop playing. But, not since SoA/ToB have I enjoyed a game this much. It is simply the best game I've ever played.

So, not everyone's a hater, Y-man.

Wow's fun, as long as you play in moderation. I was once into raiding, but then got out of it when I realized just what was happening to me. I kind of thought I'd never get addicted to it, but now realize just how engrossed I was.

I still play the game a lot to PvP for fun, but I'm through with the massive 5-hour long raiding commitments that dominated my life for months. PvP is really fun in WoW imo.

Z, get 60 ya noob. Mages are teh hax at 60.

The man is 60, essentially retired and stubborn as all hell. And I'm not about to pour out my life's story or give explanations, but he wouldn't get help. Believe me, there have been numerous heated arguements over the issue. Honestly, the best I could ever hope is Blizzard upping the system requirements so a broadband connection is required, but they would never do that. And even if they did, that'd be the reason why this house finally decides to ditch the modem.

Although ditching dialup would be amazing.

I totally agree, I too was luled into raiding and it was affecting my life. I was able to control it to a certain degree, but I missed out on alot of options I could have had if I had done certain things instead of staying up all night raiding.

I don't feel sorry for people who overplay games, I pity them. Call me what you will, but if a person lets a video game take over their life that's their problem, not the worlds, not the game makers, but their own.

Even if your 60 years old, those could be the final years of your life, you should not be hung up on a video game.

I'm not sure about that. It's one thing to become addicted to a regular game, but most mmorpgs are made in a way to addict people and keep them in. They actually try to get people addicted on purpose. Of course the player has his part of the blame, but I'd say the company is responsible too. After all that's what they wanted.

Eh, everything is addictive. Tv, games, food...snuff. Have to agree it depends on the personality. I am prone to over-indulgence myself, with everything. As a kid when I got a new game I would play it nonstop until it either broke or I completed it . But now I don't have that luxury, I have to make sure all my responsibilities and commitments are taken care of before I can sit down to do what I want. If I push the limit I pay the price.

Uh, it isn't simply the player's problem when it starts to affect things around him. It isn't just the addicts problem when shit that needs to get done doesn't. The fact is an addiction isn't just one person's problems, but also those who interact have a problem on their hands as well. And for the record, it doesn't help when people act like they are better and simply say "Oh, you're life is being consumed. That is your problem, not mine. So I'm going to go about my life not caring". It's that same attitude of backing away and saying "this is your mess, not mine" that in my view, is counter-productive. If there is something that I believe in most, it is that empathy is needed in this world and it is a dying notion.

Maybe you'll think twice when situations that you've heard over and over again start to affect you personally.

And in regards to whether or not a company should start taking responsibility, I think in most cases yes they should. Blizzard is just the same as every company. They are a business first and foremost and they are in to make a profit. So they naturally are trying to come up with "new" and "exciting" ways to keep their fanbase and lure in new customers to make a profit. The nature of the game is to be addicting to keep this whole wonderful world running.

But when you hear more and more on the news about video game addictions, especially one that says 40% of WoW players are addicted to the game, you'd think that Blizzard might begin to do something. If they really want to show that they "care" about their customers, maybe they'd start addressing these sort of issues. Personally, I think it'd be an excellent PR and marketing strategy. But until they decide that maybe their customers are more than just 49.99$ for the initial game and then 12.99-14.99$ a month, I'm afraid they will have a not so wonderful image. Blizzard is making millions a month, I doubt it would hurt them much to start addressing this issue which is becoming more and more prevalent.
