I have been committed to providing free image space since I
started this website. But it is no longer financially feasible
for me to do so. I apologize for the inconvenience. If you have a
free 1MB account, you have until March 1st to remove all your
images from your account, or they will be removed for you.
Ok everyone move over all of your images which you'd expected to be permanent now! *sigh* this is gonna screw up way too many websites... Someone needs to gather together and make a petition against him forcing us to pay on threat of removing our images...

Well it sucks, yes, but I can afford it myself.

If anyone has sigs or pics they want to be hosted so they don't lose them, just let me know and I'll host them for you, I have tons of space.

Why? It's his site. There were no promises of eternal free accounts. If he wants to charge because he feels he can't afford not to, so be it. Things cost money, and just because we get/got something for free in the past does not give us any right to expect it in the future.

I agree. I'm sad Ranchoweb is no longer offering free accounts, I always used them and I haven't signed up with another site yet, but I cannot get mad at the guy. Whenever I see sites offering free services like that I cannot help but think how generous the people behind them must be. So how could I get mad if he can no longer afford it? Again I really wish it wouldn't have been necessary and it sucks pretty badly for me, but don't go blaming him!

Incidentally... someone already started a topic on the same thing a few threads down

Right I agree with Mel and Leonis. I thought when I first signed up for a free account at Ranchoweb how lucky I was to have space for hosting a decent amount of pics, all for free. But if you had seen how Ranchoweb was getting, especially during the Christmas holidays, you'd understand why they are asking for money now. It was totally bogged down, and at one point they had to shut down all the free memberships just to keep the paying ones moving (albeit incredibly, unbelievably, slowly). I can just imagine how many people have used Ranchoweb over the years because of its free service, I can imagine the heavy loads on the servers, and Ranchoweb has to pay money and most likely invest a lot of their own time to keep those servers going. So it is not surprising that they did all they could do, generously gave free service for so long to so many, until they just couldn't do it anymore, couldn't afford the out-of-pocket expenses any longer.

Again, it shouldn't affect anyone on this forum, as not only me, but I'm sure many here, would be happy to host things for IWs members who are in need.

And yes, Mel is right, there is another thread somewhere about this subject that was posted a few days ago (probably on page 2).

I seem to remember Freewebs not allowing images to be shown else where...

I just deleted my pics after I saved, uploaded and checked them on my personal webspace.
I takes longer as you have to publish any changes - no '2 minutes, there it is' like ranchoweb. But they're now there as long as I want...
