I am using a laptop with a 233 processor on a cable modem and am using xp pro as a operating system, i have been told that this was not a possible combination and that the processor could not operate either xp pro or a cable modem.....i am not a computer guru nor do i claim to be i am just curious

It will work, just not very well. The cable modem is fine on a 233, but XP Pro is a different animal all together.

The majority of problems with XP can be traced to inadequate hardware. In my opinion, and just my opinion mind you, XP should not be run on anything less than a 1GHZ PC with 512MB or RAM.

I'd suggest a) a free Unix (I know, I know...) or, failing that, b) Win95 or '98 for a 233.

I think you'll find yourself hating life if you have to deal with NT/2k/XP on something that classic; not so much slowness as random crashes (wait, that happens anyway ) and freaky core dumps.

ok i was just curious i was told that the configuration that we have should not operate at all but is isnt all that slow and i havent had all the problems stormy has had

Your definition of slow and mine might differ somewhat. Trust me, you put XP Pro on a 3GHZ machine, and you'll see just how slow that 233 is.

and it really isnt all that slow i just dont put all the games and stuff on here and it zooms right along
