It's an unfortunate fact of life in this world that every year pretty much without fail there is a state of emergency declared. For things like floods, fires, earthquakes, tornado's hurricanes and disease. The State of Emergency isnt too surprising the shocker is that it is WASHINGTON DC which is definatley new....we havent seen them close the city like this since the last blizzard we had back in 96 I believe. They have states of emergency declared out west right now due to forest fires I believe.

Basically, but not officially. Here in Mass. schools and govt buildings closed. Police are flying around everywhere. I closed my retail store, because my staff ( including myself) were shocked into tears and unable to concentrate on work. It was impossible to tell our customers to have a nice day. As I left the mall I noticed that 75% of the stores had closed as well.

Burlington Mall, Burlington, MA. Its north west of Boston. And its not really "my" store, Im an assistant manager, and my boss called and said if I wanted to close up shop, to go ahead. This is certainly a time in America to be with loved ones, not out shopping.

Found out why various places are declaring emergencies, it isn't because something happened there, what it does is it allows the state governers to mobilize resources which would otherwise take too long to get into motion to assist the afflicted areas. It a matter of legal issues and powers of state.

Burlington Mall, Burlington, MA. Its north west of Boston by about 20 miles.

Sorry to hear about your situation. One of my co workers
and friend may or may not have lost her sister at the
Pentagon. She kept asking me what she should do full of tears
and heart ache. It was hard to respond with any thing that made
any sense to her. The best we could do was let her go home and
try to get a hold of someone in her family. Her is going through
chemo for her cancer and that didnt help her situation any.
It's just been a sad day.
