I read this morning that he had cancer, but he swore that he'd be in the next Harry Potter film. They said he was getting better. I am shocked... and sad.
Can anyone else confirm this?

He had just finished filming the latest Harry Potter film. He was 72 years old and died of hodgkins disease.

Wow. That's sad.
I had read that they used a stand-in for a few scenes in number 2, but in the article I read, he said he'd be back for number 3. They said he was recovering and doing ok. What a shame!

He was a great actor, and will be missed. I enjoyed him in Gladiator and Harry Potter (The Movie) as well as others. I wonder if they finished wrap on the 2nd harry potter movie? I wonder who would 'replace' his character in the 3rd Movie? I was thinking of maybe the guy that played the Wizard in Lord of the Rings.. ??

He would make an excellent Dumbledore. I've always thought they looked quite similar.

Yes, I second Ian mckellen. He played Magneto in the X-man movie a short while ago as well. (I loved that film! my friend and I had a choice between seeing it at the cinema or A Perfect Storm...who wants to watch a film about fishermen in a boat in a storm, i ask you. *tuts*)
Sorry to hear about Richard, I thought he made a perfect Dumbledore. *cries*
