i don't know what's wrong...Yoshimo had 280% pick pocketing skill after some potions of master thievery and he has NEVER been successful in stealing ANYTIHNG from any vendor! i know some are harder to steal from than others, but i've tried them all over...even Gorch in Mae'var's place, because i heard he was one of the easiest to steal from...
he's never been caught picking peoples pockets on the streets...im getting very frustrated i read a few posts about this a while ago, people said reputation might affect it...that doesnt sound right, but oh well my rep is 15....base pick pocketing is around 200 on yoshi, and the rest are all fairly low except find traps, which is 100 do any of the other thieving skills affect your chance of successful thieving from a vendor? thanks for any input |

A thing I've noticed is that if your skill in pickpocketing is too high, you'll fail too. Don't know why that is though. 200% is too much. What I always try to do when stealing from a shop is keeping the skill around 120-140%. That works the best for me.

J'aran is right - if the pickpocket ability is too high, the game seems to think 'uh-oh, something wrong here' and invariably screws you over. So don't boost this ability too much in future

With around 180 you should never fail with a vendor, only maybe if you try to pickpocket some character in the game.

I dunno if it's just a quirk, but whenever I try to steal from a vendor, I have the person with the highest Charisma talk to them, then I sell a few things, buy a few things, and THEN try to steal something. I keep a few jewels around so that I can sell them when I want to steal something.
I dunno if this is a viable strategy, but it's worked for me in the past. Remember to save after you steal... every time! I hate going through the dialogue to get to steal somethng I've already stolen twice...
