Does anyone think its odd that a monk cannot use a quarterstaff? Classical "Earth" monks of the oriental persuasion were masters of weapons (for all you gaijin out there, watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, they are monks). I think if any one is doing mods with a focus on oriental styles or just the monk in general, that he is allowed some specialization, maybe 2 stars, and in any weapon!

Just my two EP.

Well, I don't think so because Monks fight with their bare hands.

Perhaps if you could read, you'd see that I was comparing the way monks are presented in the game of Baldur's Gate 2 to ACTUAL real-life monastic orders such as the Shaolin Temple in "them far places over the big wa-wa".

Looks like Ellesime's servants are decreasing in quality, and I feel pity for Seldarine and the ALSB.

You are right, but I think the aim in this game was to concentrate on the whole Chi (ki) factor, of using the mind to enhance the body. So weapons would kind of make that pointless. I think they did a good job of addressing your concerns by creating the Kensai. It wouldn't be fair to expect a monk training with weapons to recieve all of the bonuses that a monk who constantly meditates would recieve (to armor class and to damage etc).

By 3 cents

Real life? huh? you lost me there

seriously thought, do you think any of those "real life fighting monks" actually need weapons in close combat?

my solution, stick to non-real life. it makes things easier
