Anyone here a Michael Moorcock fan?

Well, pard, the theory is the following:
There is an infinite amount of worlds/universes/dimensions which differ from one another, some only slightly, some a bit more. They all form the Multiverse, which is the place all of Moorcock's tales happen in(well in fact, due to definition, everything happens in the Multiverse, there are in fact physical theories about it).
However, each of the main heroes I listed lives on a separate world/universe/dimension and has his own saga without any ties to the other series of the other champions. Each can be read as a standalone saga, you can read Elric and totally neglect Hawkmoon for example. And there's no order in which to approach the different heroes, you can start with Corum or Bastable or whatever you like (although Elric's the easiest to approach as it is nearest to classical fantasy)
The only connection between some of the series are a story or two were several of the heroes meet, but knowing who the other heroes are is not essential to the understanding of a certain story. "Sailing to the past" for example, the first story of "Sailors on the Seas of Fate", has Elric meeting Corum, Hawkmoon and Erekose. It's part of the Elric cycle and no prior knowledge of the other folks is neccesary. However, it's fun if you later read Hawkmoon and discover a chapter, where the same episode related in "Sailing" is told from Hawkmoons perspective...

In sum, they are all different, unconnected tales which Moorcock had lots of fun connecting through some metaphysical idea, the multiverse. [img]smile.gif[/img]

9. Kane of Old Mars
10. Dancers at the End of Time
11. Elric: The Stealer of Souls
12. Corum: The Prince with the Silver Hand
13. Legends from the End of Time
14. Earl Aubec and other stories
15. Count Brass

Each of these contain 3 or more books.

Also Imperial Dwarf mentioned the first book of Sailor on the Seas of Fate. An Elric book in which Elric meets Corum, Hawkmoon and Erekose to fight Agak and Gagak, aliens from another universe. Their is also three other tales that has the same story except told from Corums point of view, from Hawkmoons point of view and from Erekoses point of view.

and about connectivity.. All the heroes of his stories are a manifestation of the Eternal Champion and are basically reincarnations of one another. For instance Erekose can remember all of the times when he was Elric and when he was Corum etc etc. Pretty wild stuff..

So...where do I start if I want to read about Elric? I guess from imperial dwarf's recommendation I should start with Elric of Melnibone?

1. Elric of Melnibone
2. Sailor on the Seas of Fate
3. The Weird of the White Wolf
4. The Vanishing Tower
5. Bane of the Black Sword
6. StormBringer
7. Elric at the End of Time.

There are newer novels with elric stories that fit in between but these are the Main/original Elric Saga. Hope this helps.

Why unsatisfying, good rodent? What could be unsatisfying in a story with a soul drinking sword, his albino sidekick, a guy called Moonglum and one of the most impressive endings in fiction? [img]smile.gif[/img]
Not to mention dukes of chaos, drug experiences, repetitive story lines, lots of classic juvenile stuff...
