Are they really worth it? I mean, would you rather use a shortbow or a shuriken? A dagger or a shortsword? A kukri or a mace? I mean, why would you want to use a tiny weapon if larger weapons do much more damage?

If the tiny weapon had a special on it (eg. %50 chance to stun) it can be worth it. Also it depends which would you rather use a +2 dagger or a normal shortsword.

No, I mean like normal weapons with no enchantments.

Well you could use it for off-hand bonuses. Or less penalties should I say. Easy to use a tiny weapon in tour off-hand than a bastard sword

Also, a gnome/half-ling etc. can't weild larger weapons so they use smaller ones

Shurikens are pointless though

It depends on the character. Both the weapon finesse and the two weapon fighting feats benifit from tiny weapons. Also the roleplaying aspect of playing a charcters can also be an issue. Theives tends to like daggers because they are smaller and easier to conceal than a sword.

A dual welding ranger/thief with the weapon finesse feat and a killer dex is one of my favorite characters. He uses a dagger/shortsword combo and has become quite deadly becasue he sneaks around alot and gets alot of attacks.

What about the ninja character as far as shurikens goes... I made a rogue character loosley based on the ninja type character who uses shurikens. Sure a short bow does more damage than a shuriken, but I love the whole idea of whipping out a few throwwing stars to slow down a charging foe before engaging in melee. I guess its all in the imagination...

Plain to see, they make smaller weapons for smaller characters. Granted, in PnP, there are variants of larger weapons as smaller ones.

Well a lighthand weapon used as an offhand can do wonders for avoiding attack bonus penalties, especially for dex-based fighters.

For diversity's sake, assume that for whatever reason...a person does not want to be proficient with anything more than a butterknife, and he is determined to beat the game...using this and only this ability.

Diversity in games. Choices we make. Not everybody wants or has to be a sword-wielding, arrow-shooting, axe-cleaving son-of-a-gun!
