The problem being, that something is broadcasting an IP address. Which points pretty much to spyware or a virus.
A lot of people could make port scanner that could tell if messenger is active on a specific IP or not, it really doesn't take that much skill. The IPs that are given out to residental customers are generally in blocks, so that makes scanning even easier as you can look specifically for home users who are going to be more likely target.

that is spyware, I used to get them when I first installed a new messanger. the only way to get rid of them is to run a spyware/adware remover and use your firewall

yeah, i got a similar message that wanted me to go to something like undate.info. i knew right away it was not right because it showed up in IE instead of Firefox which is set to my default browser. when i did the scan, it turned out i had a LOT of asware on the comp. we had to completely wipe out the files and i lost all the data in my c drive. good thing that was back when our comp was fairly new.

Bah, Nightfire can be found for about $10 even at Harvey Norman, I dont know why its installed, I havnt played it for quite a while.

Hmm, lets see, I formatted only about a week ago, and I also have:
Mech commander 2, MOO3, KOTOR, BG2, Freelancer, Deus EX, Z, Emperor:Battle for dune....and so on installed... I should really cut back on the games....

(edited for language)... I have done at least 3 scans with both Adaware SE and Spybot S&D, and still those messages keep coming up.
WTF!?!?!?! I have always seen myself as knowing a bit about computers, and I am usually able to figure this crap out, but nothing seems to work.
I suppose I will have to pull out Ye olde Norton and try that....

Once again, it has happened three times while im typing this!!!!!!

Hivetyrant, I can understand your frustration,
but please do not use that curse
that I had to edit out of your posts twice in this thread.

Use another word or phrase less incriminating.
