Do they exist? You know, scroll cases, gem bags, maybe a Bag of Holding?
I am starting to suffer inventory clutter. Minsc has almost every single type of arrow( I have yet to use a single enchanted one up till now). I am actually contemplating buying a few of the other types from Sorcerous Sundries just to complete the collection. Khalid kisses his Gauntlets of Ogre Power, because it enables him to carry several dozen potions. I have Potions of Heroism, Potions of Regeneration, Potions of This, Potions of That, Potions of Something and Everything. I now regret stealing all the potions from that merchant in Baldur's Gate. It is taking up too much space, and I am hardpressed to need to use them. Just 3 more city blocks, and I complete the city already. Dynaheir used to complain that she had no wands to play with, now she has so many that I am instructing her to use them for fun. Worse comes to worst, there is always Sorcerous Sundries. Dynaheir has a lot of scrolls too, because a lot of direct damage spells are Conjuration, and I want to use them. Imoen too, is stuffed with potions. At least, potions that boost her thieving abilities. So far... she has only drank one Potion of Master Thievery to steal from the potion merchant. Kryjack, my Cleric, suffers from the potion overload too. He has so many Potions of Healing that were this in real life, he could most probably just throw a potion at Khalid's head to heal him. Jaheira? She is the only one with inventory space, because she is the designated jewellery carrier. Found a gem? Chuck it to Jaheira. Quest item? Chuck it to Jaheira. So back to the original question. Are there containers in the game? I will weep with joy if a Potion Bag exists. Hmmmm... this reminds me. I have a crate of +1 Arrows in Beregost. |

AFAIK they do not exist (you may be able to create one using the infinity engine, but I wouldn't know where to start). However you can store limitless amounts of stuff in empty barrels, chests etc that are dotted around in the towns. Once deposited in one of these the items are secure and don't get taken by anyone else (even of the chest your using for storage is in an occupied room). The main drawback of this of course is that they are not mobile. Hope this helps

No containers of any kind
Have you considered selling some of those potions - or drinking them

I only resort to potions when I cannot win a fight without them. So long as everybody lives after an encounter, I consider it a success and move on. Heck, I even sting on the healing potions. Preferring instead, to rely on my Clerics and inns. I imagine that when it comes to the last fight... Khalid is going to have to keep it all in after I am done stuffing potions down his throat. As for selling? Heck no! They are way too useful to sell! Well... I only sold the Potions of Strength and Potions of Fortitude, since they are more or less not very effective compared to the other potions. My personal favourite so far is the Potion of Defence. Pity it is not commonly found. I already am using crates to store my excess arrows( all +1 enchanted), but I am loathe to part with my potions. The problem with potions is not really because of their weight, but the fact that you cannot stack a lot of them in the same slot, that there are so many different types, and that because of that, they take up a lot of slot spaces. |

I never used potions, saving them for that special occasion ... trust me, when it comes down to BG 1, stuff down those potions like crazy, shoot arrows at everything that moves and then MAYBE .. your potion/arrow stack wont exceed the weight of your entire party together .. with ten cows ...
Seriously, chuck 'em, drink 'em, light them on fire, do something with them !

My advice is to sell off potions that do things that you already can do or aren't all that effective in the late stages of the game. (The following list is a spoiler.) . . . .

They do not exsit unless you have the DSotSC expansion installed. Even then I find the containers in DSotSC are a little buggy or not as smooth as those in BGII or the IWD series.

Dundee, there is a bag of holding in BG1, however, obtainable only via mod. Pritchke mentioned DSotSC, and I'll give you a link to Ease-of-Use mod for Baldur's Gate 1. It will be incredibly useful to BG2 veteran like you.
BoH is buggy and user unfriendly. There is also potion stacking included.

I'm another player who doesn't use anything magical with charges on it. This includes potions, wands, arrows, and even spell scrolls if I can help it.
Of course, I don't sell them either, because if I have to use them later on, wouldn't it be a shame if I had to buy them back? Well, experience has taught me you don't have to keep them (although I still hoard like crazy, can't help it, I may be a hamster). Sell everything you won't need, even if you think you do. Wands are useful, but not if you don't use them (and you don't have to). Sell them all if they are not an integral part of your strategy. Have your mages pen spell scrolls as much as possible, sell anything you can't teach them (although parties with low lore benefit from keeping all the identify spells you come across, as long as you use them, and parties with Xan as the only mage are better off if you keep a few web and fireball spells he can cast from scrolls. No more than five of each nessecary though). Magical arrows, bolts and bullets. Keep some of these. Always have your characters carry around 40-80 of these, but always take them from your stock first, and from the stores second. You should never have to buy enchanted arrows. Don't fire them unless you have to. The potions... sell them. If you don't use them now, you won't use them later. Keep some healing potions, but not all. They help out in tougher fights, but the 8 hp becomes less and less significant later in the game. You end up needing six of them just to restore the damage caused by a single blow. Heal spells work better, you're right to trust in clerics. Potions of invisibility are useful if you don't want to fight every fight, but I have a feeling they are not for you. Potions of firebreath and oils of fiery burning can be useful on occasion, but fireballs work better (although a hiding thief with a potion like this can get into a better position than most wizards). In any case, pick one, lose the other. Finally, there are the oils of speed, which can be extremely useful at the right moments. You won't be needing any of these potions, let alone the ones left unmentioned. Have a spring cleaning, toss all of them out of your inventory. In the worst case scenario, you have to go back to the store and buy some of them back. You'll still have made a profit, and have much more spare space in inventories. Oh, right. Almost forgot the only really, really useful must-keep potions and scrolls. Anything protecting you from petrification, as well as some stone to flesh scrolls, is always worth carrying around. As long as you don't overdo it. As a rule, excepting healing potions, you don't need more potions of one kind than fit into a single slot. Now get cleaning |

In no particular order, and after exploring everywhere in Baldur's Gate except the sewers and the Iron Throne building, I have...
I will also consider selling them to a merchant whom I can steal from. At least I know I will be able to get them back for free. I love my Wands of Fire and Oils of Fiery Burning though... not to mention my Necklaces of Missiles( and Dynaheir's Fireballs). Nothing like entering a battle with an explosive start. I am starting to get addicted to wands. Jaheira is more useful when she is using her Wand of Heaven than doing anything else. |
