OK, this isn't really upsetting me that much, but I got a 160BG HD from staples yesterday (talked to some of my buddies from when I was working there and found out there was a great deal on Hard Drives, 160GB for 80, with another $40 in mail in rebates). well I got it put in, replaced my old 12.6GB that came with my comp 5 years ago, and have been getting it set up, except as I read in the manual, until I get updated to sp3 (running win2k) I won't be able to see more than 137GB's... lol, it's a pain but I think I can live with it. I just hope Ruby doesn't kill me for wiping out the WinXP partition she was using since I started my MCSE classes.

You should have used Norton Ghost to backup your old partition and restore it back on the new Harddisk.

You might have split the drive into two partitions first.... say, each at 80GB. Then you're well shy of the limit.

You might also have left the original hard drive in the system, too. Nothing says you can't have two of 'em

Well, it was five years old and probably a crappy one at that if it came with the machine. It was time to dump the old one, regardless. I hear that some people say you should replace the HD every three years. I think I learned that here on IW, but not sure.

It may have been five years old, but it's still a 12GB drive. That's not necessarily something to throw away, and it does just fine sitting as a secondary HD on a machine. Or even a tertiary one, if there's also a 30GB in there too.

I'd be inclined to install the 200GB (as two partitions), install the 12Gb, and copy everything from that one over to the 200Gb. A standard mobo should support four IDE-type devices (3 HDs and the CD/CDRW/whatever). If there are too many, take out the 30GB temporarily to retrieve what was on the 12GB. Then take the 12GB back out, and put the 30GB in.

A 500MB drive, I would throw away. You can't do anything with it today. But a 12GB drive? Both my kids' computers have 2GB drives in them, so 12GB would be a definite upgrade

Side note: anyone wanna take bets on whether Morgeruat survives the week, now that RevRuby knows what he's done to her computer?

oh it's his computer, but we can't put mine up because of no room for my desk. i want to buy him a smaller desk but the one we picked out is $150, not something we have lying around. anyone interested in helping out with that can send us some staples gift cards!

oh yeh, he'll survive, as long as i still have my artwork and scans somewhere. and well he tells me where.
