OK, the normally secretive Pangur Ban decides to open up a little.

Name: Mark
Age: 41
Description: 180 cm, vivid blue eyes, long curly ponytail
Occupation: Quality systems auditor
Beliefs: Tending towards Wicca, but with a bit of Zen to liven it up. The term "ZIPPie" ( Zen Inspired Professional Pagan ) seems to describe me well. Also have studied Reiki and tarot.
Lives at: House at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne. House is shared with Gabrielle the beloved wife ( has sharp claws ) and Azreylle the beloved Abyssian/tabby cat ( has even sharper claws )
Likes: Cats of all shapes and sizes. CRPGs - have finished over 70 so far, Vanilla ice cream, cooking, ( I do 95% of all the cooking as I get home earlier than Gabbi does )
Dislikes: Dogs. It's a mutual thing, they dislike me just as much. Was once attacked by a dog while I was in a restuarant.
Past projects: Was an avid Dungeons and Dragons player, but lost interest after about 10 years.
Current projects: Taking music lessons ( keyboard ). Ice skating.
Life highlights: Won two consecutive pinball tournaments. Got married on an ice skating rink - the entire bridal party was on skates. Played Santa Claus in a Christmas ice show - those whiskers itched like crazy ... Won 3 Christmas turkeys in different raffles, all in the same week. Travelled 4000 km to see the Book of Kells

The name Pangur Ban is taken from an 11th century poem written by an Irish monk, about his cat. Cat lovers, I recommend that you find a copy - it is magnificent.

LOL, I got a cat that actually IS all shapes and sizes LOL err. well, it's TRUE!!

I've never tried ice skating before, but my entire youth for about eight years were spent at the local roller skating rink. There is really nothing that can compare to the feeling of "flying" albeit on the ground, and the power of movement that you get from that type of thing

So what is the title of the poem, Pangur Ban? And the name of the monk that wrote it? Such info would be helpful in locating it....

Fljotsdale,

Here's a link to the poem mentioned by Pangur:

Have to agree with you Pangur, great poem for cat lovers.

Cloudy: Which university did you go to here in Moscow? MGU? In terms of upstate New York, I grew up in Rochester.

As a quick side note, Lord Shield, I got quite a laugh out of the adventures of the chicken warrior. I'm a huge Cow and Chicken fan...I love the episode where Cow gets caught in space and they hold up signs in the portholes of the spaceship (Send Help, Need Gas, Moo).

Thanks, Argus, for posting the link - I was in RL all yesterday and didn't get a chance to do it myself.

Had a look at your link, they have two completely different interpretations of the poem. I will have to post a link to the version I have.

Thank you! of the two here, I like the Eavan Boland version. Pity I can't read the Irish version. I feel it would be much the best.
