I've been carrying what look like spellbooks for some time. How do you use these?

Also, my ranger finally has the fletchery trait but he doesn't seem to be making any arrows. How long does it take before he makes one?

If the spellbooks say something like "Book of *any spell name*" then your character has to be able to cast spells of that school and a high enough spell level to use them (like to be able to use a Book of Flamestrike you'd have to be able to cast Sun spells and be able to cast that level of spell). To use them, just right-click on the Book and click the "invoke" button.

And as for the fletchery trait, frankly I'm not sure, I never actually used it, so I'm not sure how long it takes to make arrows. Not sure why but I didn't. But just to make sure you're using it right, I believe you have to have arrows equipped in your first quiver and have a bow equipped (if I'm wrong, please correct me anybody).

Hope this helps you out!

Unless you Really need the spell, hold off learning it as long as you can. You gain more spell points if you learn them thru training.
However if you must learn it...right click on it and look on the bottom of the box that pops up. If your character can learn the spell...one of the icons will say 'INVOKE' when you mouse over it.

AS for 'Fletchery' the arrow must be in the top slot and your Ranger must have a bow equipt. Then they should make arrows whenever they are outside of town and not in battle.

To clarify what Packrat said a little, you get zero mana points when you use a spellbook. You get typically 20 or so mana points when you increase a level and learn a spell there. Towards the end of the game, lots of mana is a nice thing to have, so you really don't want to shortchange yourself on that account.

About the only spellbook I'd use (aside from the initial ones you get when starting the game) is Cure Poison. And if you've been playing for a while, you'll know what I mean.

One other thing: you can only invoke spellbooks in schools available for your character. So a barbarian, for example, cannot invoke any spell books, even if he or she used to be a warlock with all spell schools. When levelling up, though, the barbarian can pick a spell to learn.

IIRC, you get some mana if you learn the spell using a book. I may be wrong because I haven't used a book of magic for a long time But the amount of mana you get using a book is much smaller than the amount of mana you get learning the spell during level up. You get SPI points of mana in the later case.
Use the books only as a scream of desperacy: you need the spell awfully and you cannot wait for level up.

Thanks. I equipped my ranger with a bow and he made his first arrow in less than a minute. Nice info about the spellbooks too. I cashed them in for some change since I didn't need any of them.
