Well I'm sure that everyone will be better off with this program.
http://www.news24.com/News24/Backpag...283369,00.html 10/11/2002 20:13 - (SA) Porn for prisoners London - British prisoners will be allowed to receive hardcore pornography after a serial murderer used European human rights law to overturn a ban by prison authorities, The Sunday Telegraph reported. The British prison service is now drafting new regulations giving wardens discretion to allow inmates to receive pornography after a number of prisoners argued the ban violated the Human Rights Act which guarantees freedom of expression and the right to receive information. In particular the change stems from a campaign by Dennis Nilsen, jailed in 1983 for murdering six young men, for the right to receive explicit homosexual pornography, said the newspaper. British prisoners had been allowed to receive only soft pornography available from regular news stands, and guards would sometimes tear out pages containing pictures deemed too explicit. An advocate for victims of crime criticised the decision by the prison service. "It is not a human right to look at hardcore pornography," the newspaper quoted as saying Norman Brennan, the director of Victims of Crime Trust. "Soon we will be apologising to prisoners for sending them to jail" "I believe that even serving prisoners who have committed terrible crimes should be allowed their human rights but this makes a mockery of the whole system," he told the newspaper. The European Convention on Human Rights was incorporated into British law as the Human Rights Act in 2000 by the Labour government of Prime Minister Tony Blair. - Sapa-AFP |

I fail to see anything wrong with that.
Hey, it’s better than wasting the money on locking people up for years, for just smoking some pot or something. AFAIC The European Convention on Human Rights is wonderful thing, Since it increases the power of the individual against the goverment. Why should we censor what prisoners read? It's not like goverment censorship ever lead to anything good. [ 11-26-2002, 01:39 PM: Message edited by: Eisenschwarz ] |

OT: Ridiculous! I'm with the guy they quoted..."What are we going to do next, start apologizing for putting people in prison?" That's almost the point we've gotten to in this country, sad to say. And it seems that the moral/intellectual poison is spreading to England. *SIGH* Hiya Drammie...still fishing, I see. Perhaps you'd like to post ON TOPIC...maybe we could actually *debate* it then. EDIT...Ahh...I see that you have...sort of. The answer to your first question is pretty damn simple. Taxpayers(in any country) should NOT be forced to pay for this sick psycho's habits. IMNSHO prisoners should be given small, uncomfortable cells, enough food and drink to keep them alive, and enough exercise and health care to keep them minimally healthy...END OF LIST! But then, I'm one of 'bad men' that feels that prisoners should actually bu PUNISHED. The answer to your second question...is a whole different thread in and of itself. The only thing those magazines are good for is making alot of sticky messes and the poor little skinny convicts that can't protect themselves alot more worried these days.
