Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to kill Sion and his cronies in the upper level of the Guarded Compound?
I seem to have tried everything but nothing is working. They kick my ass everytime.
Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Guk73

i just beat those guys soloing as an assassin, and the strategy i used was pretty much the same strategy I always use. i improved invisibled myself, then i went to the second floor, and snuck up behind the head guy (sion in this case) backstabbed him, which instantly killed him, then i ran away. when i got downstairs i hid in shaddows, so when his cronies followed me down, they didnt find me. i back stabbed one of them, then ran upstairs hid in the shadows backstabbed and repeated until they were all dead. maybe this helps maybe it doesn't but that was my latest strategy

Cast Greater Malison followed by Emotion. Poke them to death while they slumber oblivious to your attacks.

My main concern was to keep alive the weaker party members here, mainly Yoshi and Aerie. So I went to the spell vendors and bought the protection scrolls, like from magic weapons and bunch of others I don't remember. When I entered the compound, I just took few steps ahead to trigged the summoned creatures and then backed out, and let them fight with eachother. Then killed the remainder.

Went to stairs, took off Party AI, and buffed. Enrage, Draw Holy might, Boots of Speed on main char (he's berserker), Oil of Speed to all (since I have all casters using some ranged weapon and tanks, well, are tanks hehe), Aerie and Jaheira slapped the buffs on themselves and others, especially on Aerie and Yoshi. Also use the Aid, Chant, such spells are zoomy and helpful, not to mention lower level and easy to get. Finally Jaheira slapped on the True Sight, to nullify the pesky Invisibility the dang rogue up there uses. SAVE the game now hehe.. And went up.

Now this is timing or luck, but as soon as I got up I it the pause, and sent Aerie and Yoshi to back wall, Jaheira and Minsc in front of them. My main char can take and deliver beating, so I wasn't worried about him. Minsc and Jaheira I used to protect the weaker members first, and when the first threat to them is over (i.e. the pesky invisible asassin(sp?)), they can join. AI I turned off so that the darn fools wouldn't run after the NPC's and trigger these sneaky traps..

You know, frankly the fight was suddenly so much easier, when you prepare heheh.. I have rushed this place too and it has been a mean fight, but with preparation it was suddenly so much more easier. Asassin went Invis and was naturally detected right away by Jaheira, just as she was few steps from Minsc. Result was that she got whacked hard by Minsc, fast too (remember the Oil of Speed we all used, eh? hehe) and pelted by 2 slings and 1 bow (Aerie, Jaheira and Yoshi). She went down before she could say "Oopsie!"; at the same time my main char focussed on the kensai dude there, since he's most dangerous. During all this mess, Yoshi removed the traps and then I set the AI back on, and mayhem was loose. I just coordinated it a bit hehe.. And well, the result was lotsa loot and mucho dineros, as they say. No one died, just had to cast some heals, nothing was too critical, no one was below 50-60% of HP. And weaker party members were unharmed, which was my main goal here. I once lost Aerie like this, when the asassin backstabbed her so hard that she was turned into minced meat, not good even for resurection, Yoshi soon after her, when that bloody kensai smacked him really hard heh..

If you have Jahiera in this battle, immediately cast Insect Plague. completely turns off all enemy spell casting. In fact, Jahiera's (or Cernd) Insect Plague spell will usually tip the scales in battle with tough spellcaster(s).

Also, the 7th level druid spell Insect Swarm is similar. Double damage in half the time. However, if your intent is to simply "turn off" an enemy's spell casting, Insect Plague is better. The duration of the spell is more important than the damage it causes.

Don't know, never found it of that much use. First plague or not, the mages always end up and minced meat hehe.. Secondly, it takes more time to get these bugs off then it takes to shoot up some protections. I aint much into spells so beats me whether the spell ignores this and that kind of protection. Fact's a fact - I once did try some Insect spell with Jaheira and these bugs got swiftly reflected back at her, so it was more trouble then use heheh.

Nah, as they say, there's nothing like a whack between the eyes to "fix" the spellcasters..

Remove those damn traps in front of their feet asap
so at least yoru chars have some reathing space

My first spell was horror to at least put 1 or 2 out of the picture
The while the fighters get stuck in my mage put a nice summoned daemon right on top of the mage
or something of that nature will help
Cos he has some good spells, so you need to take him out and give him something to keep him busy
Then its hack and slash your way to victory

Whailor,

You really need to become more versed in DnD spell casting. It's a very rare time that Insect Plague will not work. It's almost the best reason to have a Druid in any party!!! So what if the mages get their protections up before Insect Plague shuts down their spell casting! The point of the IP spell is to prevent mages from doing any OFFENSIVE spellcasting.

And by the way, once you've shutdown their spell casting, THEN go whack'em between the eyes. That's the whole point!!! A mage that can't cast spells is just moments away from pushin' up daisies!!!

Insect plague is the best spell disruptor in the game. It targets everyone within sight and half the time they panic and run around, effectively taking them out of the battle anyways.

Greater malison and web are an excellent combo here. Make sure to get the two K's out of the way first, Ketta and Koshi. Ketta will destroy you with the backstabs and Koshi with his awesome katana. These two are more deadly than the two casters.
