I can only assume the lack of any factual evidence regarding a Saddam/9-11 link is irrelevant to 70% of the people polled. I'm speechless. Are people really this gullible? I don't put much faith in polls, still, this is ridiculous.

Poll: 70% believe Saddam, 9-11 link
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly seven in 10 Americans believe it is likely that ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the Sept. 11 attacks, says a poll out almost two years after the terrorists' strike against this country.
Sixty-nine percent in a Washington Post poll published Saturday said they believe it is likely the Iraqi leader was personally involved in the attacks carried out by al-Qaeda. A majority of Democrats, Republicans and independents believe it's likely Saddam was involved.

The belief in the connection persists even though there has been no proof of a link between the two.

President Bush and members of his administration suggested a link between the two in the months before the war in Iraq. Claims of possible links have never been proven, however.

Veteran pollsters say the persistent belief of a link between the attacks and Saddam could help explain why public support for the decision to go to war in Iraq has been so resilient despite problems establishing a peaceful country.

The president frequently has called the Iraq war an important centerpiece in the United States' war on terror. But some members of the administration have said recently they don't believe there is a direct link.

The Post poll of 1,003 adults was taken Aug. 7-11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A Time magazine/CNN poll released Saturday said most Americans — 71% — believe the United States has done a good job in Iraq since the end of major fighting, while 26% said it has done a poor job.

Sixty-three percent said the nation was right in going to war in Iraq and 32% said it was wrong. But the Time/CNN poll found Americans more closely split on whether the military action was worth the price in America lives, taxpayer dollars and other costs — 49% said yes, 43% no and 8% were unsure.

The poll also found Bush's approval down to 52%, from 63% in May.

The Time/CNN survey of 1,003 adults was taken Sept. 3-4 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points

I'm only going to say one thing about public polls:

"According to USA Today 75% of the Americans make up three quarters of the population."

Saw another poll taken a few months back that stated 1 in 5 (22%) believed that Iraq used chem/bio weapons during the war on US troops.

The american public is so easily (mis)led it's frightening.

[/QUOTE]I think there is better than a even chance that they were used during the First Gulf War. I know some of Chemical detection devices went off several times in the days leading up to and during the ground offensive. Now that could have been from the bombings that went on, but we were kinda out in the hinterland. No big populations centers around us.

I think the only reason nothing ever was said about it offically, was because the coalition forces may have felt like they would have had to respond with nuclear weapons. There are an awful lot of guys that came back sick from that war.

Yeah I had a co-worker a few years back that suffered from gulf war syndrom. Most of the stuff I have read about it points to chem sites that were bombed and/or the pleathera of untested vacacines that the troops had to take, with little testing on how they would interact. If the administration had any type of evidence that Iraq had used chem/bio in GW-1 then I'm pretty certain we would have heard about it during the run-up to GW-2

I think that the Americans feel a bit uncomfortable that they haven't found bin Ladin yet dispite the efforts putted into this. It's so much easier to believe that Saddam has a link to al Qaida since then you have made progress in the 'War on Terrorism' by ousting him. You have then struck down a solid enemy (Saddam) instead of just swinging your sword at shadows (al Qaida).

It could be that 30% refuse to believe fact the Czech intelligence still mantains, despite FBI denials, that they have proof Muhamid Attia(sp?) met with members of the Iraqi Intel. in Pruage(sp?)a few months before the attacks of 11 Sept. 2001. Or maybe they feel the airliner at Saminpak(sp?), a know terrorist training camp was there for Ha Ha pruposes. Or maybe they forgot that the #1 terrorist wanted by the USA (you know the guy that planed and led the Achille Lurel attack), before Bin Ladin, turned up dead in Baghdad after having lived there for years under Sodamn Insane's protection. Or that Sodamn Insane has for over 10 years claimed he would destroy the USA and wage war against the USA where ever and how ever he could. Or prehaps they understand the fact that if they believed Sodamn Insane had something to do with the attacks then they might have to acknowledge Pres. Bush was right, and Lord knows their world would end if they acknowledged a Repubilcian ever did anything right.

Bah! Theres a lack of factual evidence in all sorts of things that both democrats and republicans put forth. The American public is alot smarter than most thing, the thing with these polls is 7-10 Americans might be 14000 who took the poll out of a country of 270million. Its ridiculous to trust polls made by magazines.
