A lot of this could have been fixed if proper beta time was devoted to Wizards, like:

- Poor interface navigation
- Awful ladder physics
- An noticeable use for Alignment
- More degrees of difficulty
- Less confusion with Quests
- Less crashes
- More than a 1 hit point gain
- More logic to the puzzles and clues
- More and Better Equipment
- A compass (there was a compass; two of them infact, just look: )

- http://www.darkslayers.com/deep6/shots/ss04.html

Other things were discussed, but never implented:

- Adding a clock
- Adding a REST option to pass the night
- Save games anywhere
- A way to bypass dialogue

Some other things were just the limitations of a 4 year old engine, like:

- Bounding boxes on Monsters being too small or too big.
- Maze-like forests and no open fields

I suppose that it's "realism", then, that:

1) One runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without resting ???
2) One can swim umpteen miles through the water like a shark without once having to rest or having one's stamina depleted ???

Please!

Personally, I'd classify "The Shire" and the "Enchanted Sea" as an open field, but maybe I missed the point there..

1: Network capabilities would be the best thing to ever happen to the game...

2: ability to stop their incessent talking and get to the point, or to be able to just say yes, once through the quests, twice pushing it, but 3 times listening to them talk is enough hehe...

3: scrolling skill and trait lists...

4: compass would be very cool, maybe add to ranger class or something...

5: more battle...

6: side zones that dont have anything to do with the questing part, just add some cool buildings, through in some undead, or some whatnot, and toss it in somewhere...

The game has/had network capabilities. I tried to get people to ask Activision to turn it back on, but the numbers just weren't there.

The scrolling for traits/skills is a bit misleading. A player was never suppose to get MORE traits than the number on the screen. For some reason players can get a slew of traits and skills that fill up past the slots on the interface.

Hi Alz,
wecome to the new forum!
Great to see earlier versions of the interface, where you could see your own characters. You told about it at the old forum, but seeing it makes me even more want to see the multi-player reinstalled.

Personally, I LOVE the game. It's got ALOT to offer!

But, a compass WOULD HAVE BEEN nice for sure. That would of helped me!

Maybe a look into the DARK ENGINE from Looking Glass would make this game look good for the next release? Just a thought. I thought the Dark Engine by them was an amazing piece of work and both Thief games were excellent! Can't wait for part III!!!! YEEEE HAWWWWW!

Let me know guys!!!

Yeah!

Watching your character in the world was really fantastic. I suppose since no one saw it like this, it wasn't missed -- but I played the game like that for over a year and to see it removed just before release was so depressing. It made the Gael Serran less vivid.

RE: Dark Engine.
It's a different engine and every engine is so different once you get down to the nuts n' bolts. Despite the Dark Engine looking very dated, it has some incredible gameplay. Thief is probably one of the few games I devoted hours to exploring every nook and cranny.

I even made a Thief-type town using the Deep6 (Wizard's) engine:

Thief III is in the works, but it'll use a different engine. I believe they're looking into using the Unreal or Lithtech engine.

You know those online games, Everquest and Ultima? If they got together and made an ONLINE version of W&W I think that would be AWESOME ! Just imagine being anything, and being able to play with other people. Who says the good can't dream?

An actual WORKING Anvil that you could return to with various metals you "mine" around the various parts of the world you are in and have your character with Blacksmithing and Forge skills be able to CREATE usable items for party members out of gold, silver, adamantium, etc. Armor, swords, rings, etc.
That would be TRICK!
