And arguing over the calls from the referees have and always will be a favourite pasttime among footballfans - I mean everybody knows that all referees are blind people without their guidedogs

And I haven't mentioned a conspiracy - but lets face it - South Korea progessed twice with the help of bad descisions from the referees and lost when they didn't get any 'help'.

I don't really care whether the referees were bribed or not (we'll probably never know for sure - after all you can't prove that they weren't) - but I challange anyone to argue the fact that (for instance) Spain was robbed of two totally legel goals.
Hey, I don't mind at all what people discuss here just as long as nobody gets personal. We're all bleating about sporting teams, after all - and none of us play for those teams, so I can't see anyone taking things personally.

Actually, I think this thread has been a great example of how to be PASSIONATE but also do it in good humour. Norom in particular has been a great sport even though he hasn't stopped BLEATING yet. Must be down to the trauma of a first-round exit.

It's sport, after all - not religion or politics. Sport unites people - even when they argue furiously. I hope I'm not influencing people not to post their opinion just because I find everyone's squeals to be hilarious.

Besides, it's normal for supporters of beaten, underachieving teams to squeal about various things when their overrated teams lose. Gotta blame it on someone, after all.

That's ok...you're allowed to bleat! It *is* football we're talking about, after all - fans have been bleating about various things since 1890 or whenever it started.

Here's an example of the usual factors (excuses) that get brought up when someone's favourite team loses:

1. the ref
2. the weather
3. the food
4. a rude home crowd who kept cheering for the home team
5. the ref
6. the players got sick - someone deliberately infected them with a virus
7. shitty one-star hotel accomodations
8. the ball
9. unfair draw
10. the ref

Here's one factor that never EVER gets brought up:

11. the other team played better on the day

It's amazing - this will be the first time Germany and Brazil meet in a World Cup.

Notice that I didn’t mention anyone by name – hopefully nobody had a guilty feeling in reading my post!
I did a little. Why else would you bring up Holland ?

The refs aren't blind though, it's just theat they don't have the benefit of TV replays to make a decision. In cricket we had probs with umpireing until we added a third TV umpire. Perhaps there should be a second TV ref, that makes a call if referred to by the on-field ref. Makes more sense to me.[/QB]
This is BS from Sepp Blatter. If I recall correctly, HE was the one who insisted that there be equal representation from all confederations on the referees and assistant referees, over the recommendation of the referees commission that they choose the best referees irrespective of nationality. Now he's bleating about the exact same thing he was arguing against in the first place. Can anyone spell CYA (Cover Your Ass) from Blatts?

Actually, here are the no. of referees and linesmen from each confederation:

AFC - 5 refs, 7 linesmen
CAF - 5 refs, 5 linesmen
CONCACAF - 5 refs, 4 linesmen
CONMEBOL - 6 refs, 4 linesmen
OFC - 1 ref, 2 linesmen
UEFA - 14 refs, 14 linesmen

I brought up Holland because...well, they're not there. But don't worry - if they were there I'm sure they would have at least gotten past the first round.
