How about scimitars? There are some pretty good ones early in watchers keep (One lvl4 on the first floor, and the spectral brand on the third)

Any Paladin or multiclassed Thief can have a real party with Bastard swords (Dual-wielding Purifier & Foebane), but the problem is backstabbing. I know in BG1, you try to use a Bastard sword (or any melee weapon that a true-classed Thief can't use) to Backstab, and you get the message "Your weapon is not suited for a backstab," and you lose the damage multiplier, which really takes all the fun out of it. So your Fighter/Thief should go ahead and put ** in Bastard Swords, but only after he's done Long Swords--Angurvadal+5 is VERY nice, and if you're Dual-wielding, have the Answerer (or, since you're Evil, Blackrazor) for your off-hand.
Alternatively, using Carsomyr of the Staff of the Ram+6 or Ixil's Spike+6 is a good route--unless your Drow F/T is your party's Tank, in which case you shouldn't be doing anything other than Sword & Shield Style. Backup Tanks can use whatever style they want.

quote: *huh?* I took out the entire gaggle of Fire Giants by backstabbing, then running and hiding and repeating. Even the mu's that cast True Sight as soon as you enter the area take long enough to fit one good backstab in, and it might be enough to take them out pre-prot spells.

quote:Yes, but the assasinate skill basicly replaces backstabing so its not as important as in SOA. |
