If you haven't seen it, you owe yourself to see this movie. I was skeptical when the wife rented it, but it is VERY good. If you're thinking it's about gun control, you may find yourself a bit off-base. It is more of a dissertation against the American media - and a well-deserved one, at that. Go see it before you flame this post, mmmkay?

I especially loved the bit where they offered him a gun inside the bank. Very funny, yet the thought is scary.

Timber, you might want to read the other three topics on Bowling for Columbine here on Ironworks as well.

Yes, I've found a lot of the negative comments quite amusing as they clearly show that the authors haven't seen the movie and so have no idea what Moore is actually talking about - not really gun control at all! I thought it was really very good

Yep it's a great movie, and if you have hard time defending your opinion of it to those that never saw it but don't like the idea that people say what has to be said...
Here is Mikes defence. You can see uncut scenes and interviews from the movie.

Thanks for the links Grojilili-accckkkkk. (Gotta screw up your name to keep the faith.) I knew there were probably other posts (since I rented it long after it was a movie), but I was too lazy to search. You did my homework for me.

What I like is that Moore doesn't prostheletize so much as he just sticks people on camera and lets them make fools of themselves.

I think he was generally fair. The Michigan militia didn't get too much of a hard rake, for instance.

What I did not like was the way he pressed Heston. Heston represented the NRA well, but he kept pushing. Too far, IMO, which is why Heston ended the interview.

In the end, the movie is an in-depth look into the American psyche and how/why we act the way we do. It looks to the media and makes some very fair assertions (not conclusions).

As I said, I was skeptical of the movie, and started only by giving it the "10 minute" test. But, it was a good flick, much better, IMO, than Roger and Me.
