Is the Champion of Torm really any good in the long run? Just wondering as I've never messed with prestige classes before. It looks good, but it will lock me out of higher level cleric spells for awhile if I mess with it. I'm a level 10 cleric at the moment and can level to 11, but I'm haven't yet as I was curious about the Tormite (?) class. It's the only prestige class I can take, and it looks ok, but then to me it seems I might be more powerful if I just stay with cleric. Also, I forget, but do prestige classes lock you out of leveling in your other main class until the levels match and stay within one level of eachother? Thanks!

No, prestige classes do not lock you out of your other class. Actually NO second class will lock you out of your first class. That is an old rule from 2nd edition AD&D and is not applicable to NWN which uses 3rd edition rules.

I think the Champion of Torm is an awesome PrC, but i haven't used it in conjunction with a cleric - only a paladin so far. The CoT/Paladin combo is truly devastating.

Yes, Champion of Torm is good. I believe it's the class that can do the most damage with one hit, something like 2000 points of damage, using Smite Evil.

As Micah said, no multiclassing with any class will lock you out of your other classes, that's and old 2nd ed. rule. You can take any class up to a maximum of 3 classes, as long as you meet the requirements of those classes.

The thing you mentioned about the classes staying within one level of each others has to do with experience points penalty. If you have a multiclassed character and none of the classes is the favourite class of your race, then you'll recieve a 20% XP penalty if the levels of the classes is more than one level apart. Humans and half-elves has 'Favoured Class: Any' which means that the class with the highest level is your favourite class if you're multiclassed. This means that you wont recieve a XP penalty while playing those races as long as you only have two core classes.

Prestige classes never gives you a XP penalty, so you don't need to worry about that.

Thanks a lot guys. I should have realized that one bit was from Edition 2 as I wasn't able to find it in my 3E DM guide. I'll try out Torm's Champion then.

Oops, Larry, Z, don't kill me. I wasn't thinking that this should have been in the SoU/HotU forums as I'm playing the OC right now. Sorry!!!
